This position is responsible for maintaining the general ledger, preparing financial reports, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements, supporting budget administration, and assisting with audit coordination.SUPERVISION RECEIVEDWorks under the guidance and direction of the Finance and Administrative Services DirectorSUPERVISION EXERCISEDNoneESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSMaintain and reconcile the general ledger and subsidiary accounts.Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.Assist in the preparation of the annual audit report.Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.Perform account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial analysis.Support budget preparation and processes.Monitor expenditures for compliance with approved budgets.Coordinate and assist with external audits.Prepare audit reports and supporting documentation.Monitor and evaluate internal controls to safeguard assets.Maintain records related to capital assets, debts, and fixed asset accounting.Review financial transactions for accuracy.Provide technical guidance and support city-wide.Other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. With four to six years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience.An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSWork experience in a municipal accounting setting is preferred. Current CPFO (Certified Public Finance Officer), CGFM (Certified Government Financial Manager), or CPA is highly desired.Preference is given to those with experience using Caselle Government Accounting Software.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThis position primarily involves sedentary work in an office environment. The employee is required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while performing computer-based tasks, including data entry and financial analysis. The position frequently requires the use of hands and fingers to operate a keyboard, calculator, and other office equipment. Employee may occasionally be required to move or lift items weighing up to 20 pounds, such as archived files or records boxes. Vision requirements include the ability to focus on a computer screen for extended periods.WORK ENVIRONMENTWork is performed primarily in an office environment within a municipal setting. Duties involve extended periods of sitting and computer use. The work environment is generally quiet to moderate in noise level.
