Job description

The Dobbs Ferry School District has an anticipated vacancy for a Maintenance Foreperson (Buildings). This is a competitive-class title within the Westchester County Department of Human Resources Civil Service (Job Class Code S477). The Maintenance Foreperson (Buildings) is a full-time, probationary/permanent 12-month position. Eligible job candidates must be active on an eligibility list established by the Westchester County Department of Human Resources Civil Service in the job title or must meet the minimum qualification for provisional appointment. 

The Maintenance Foreperson (Buildings) is not included within a collective negotiation unit but is entitled to the benefits set forth in the CSEA Custodial Unit.  Salary Range: $80,000-$95,000 commensurate with experience. 

Job Summary:

The Maintenance Foreperson (Buildings) performs skilled maintenance and repair work of buildings and provides direct supervision of a variety of workers involved in the maintenance and repair of district buildings, equipment and related facilities. A minimum of six years' mechanical repair, maintenance and installation experience, two years of which must have involved the layout of work and scheduling and assignment of work. 

Required Experience:

  • Thorough knowledge of the tools, processes, terminology and techniques associated with mechanical repair, maintenance and installation work;
  • Knowledge of accident and safety precautions;
  • Repair, maintain and install a variety of pipes, fittings, fixtures, motors and machine parts;
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential function of the position; physical strength and agility;
  • Possession of a valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of New York.
  • In accordance with the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) legislation, Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and by the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, candidates for appointment in school districts must obtain clearance for employment from the State Education Department prior to employment based upon a fingerprint and criminal history background check.
