Senior Director of Technology

Reports To: Chief Technology Officer
Location: Chandler, AZ
Travel: 15–30% domestic and international, including recurring travel to South Korea
Level: Director or Senior Director

Position Summary

Our client is is seeking a hands-on engineering leader to lead hardware product and technology developmen..

This role will oversee product architecture, stage-gate development, technical support, manufacturing improvement, and root-cause investigations across hardware, firmware, software integration, and device engineering. The ideal candidate will bring deep hardware engineering expertise, proven product-development leadership, and a systems-level perspective that connects hardware, embedded software, applications, and SDKs.

This is an opportunity to lead complex technology from concept through production while partnering closely with engineering and manufacturing teams in the U.S. and South Korea.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the hardware product development team and direct associated software engineering execution, coordinating with engineering teams in Asia.

  • Translate customer and market requirements into integrated hardware, firmware, and software solutions.

  • Manage stage-gate product development, including technical reviews, checklists, milestones, and stakeholder alignment.

  • Drive product architecture, redesign, prototyping, benchmarking, and performance improvements.

  • Lead Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) initiatives through product development, pilot builds, and production handoff.

  • Lead root-cause analysis and technical investigations involving fingerprint sensor technology.

  • Identify, evaluate, test, and qualify new electronic and hardware components.

  • Manage technical support for existing hardware products.

  • Contribute to new technology proposals and future product development initiatives.

  • Build and maintain a strong partnership with engineering and manufacturing operations in South Korea.

  • Support continuous improvement in product quality, manufacturability, reliability, and cost.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

  • 10–15 years of hands-on engineering experience with progressive leadership responsibility.

  • Experience leading multidisciplinary hardware, firmware, and software engineering teams.

  • Strong hardware engineering background with experience in:

    • SoCs

    • ARM processors

    • PCBs

    • FPGAs

    • CPLDs

    • Embedded systems

  • Demonstrated DFM/DFT experience in volume production, including tooling, test fixture development, pilot builds, and production handoff.

  • Experience with communication protocols including USB, Parallel, MIPI, and SPI.

  • Proficiency working across Linux, Windows, Android, and iOS environments.

  • Experience with PCB design tools such as OrCAD, PADS, or Eagle.

  • Expert-level C/C++ programming skills with some Verilog HDL knowledge.

  • Hands-on experience with laboratory test equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.

  • Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, and cross-cultural collaboration skills.

  • Demonstrated experience working with engineering and manufacturing teams in Asia.

  • Ability to flex working hours when needed to maintain regular collaboration with South Korea.

  • Willingness to travel 15–30% domestically and internationally.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience with quality systems, imaging or biometric sensors, electro-optic devices, or precision sensing hardware.

  • Experience taking products through third-party certification or regulated qualification programs, including FBI/NIST biometric certification, ISO 9001, FCC, or CE.

  • Experience supporting government or public-sector markets.

  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools, CI/CD pipelines, and static analysis.

  • Experience developing SDKs, APIs, or device-integrated applications alongside hardware platforms.

  • Prior experience living or working in South Korea.

  • Familiarity with Korean language and business practices.
