Job description

The Media School at Indiana University (IU) is built on a decades-long tradition of journalism, film, media, and communication at one of the nation's premier public universities. Our programs focus on teaching, researching, and creating media from academic, creative, and professional perspectives. The Media School is committed to building and supporting a strong community of students, scholars, practitioners, and staff.
The Curriculum Development Specialist manages curriculum processes and enrollment workflows and assists with schedule coordination for The Media School, working closely with academic leadership, student services, and campus partners to ensure accurate, effective academic operations. This position reports to the Director of Academic Operations.
Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
  • Leads curriculum design, maintenance, and reform processes, managing proposals for courses, programs, and General Education requirements from development through implementation.
  • Serves as the primary curriculum management liaison with university and college offices (e.g., OUCPR, Registrar), independently resolving curricular inquiries, errors, and compliance issues.
  • Co-facilitates the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, including agenda development, meeting coordination, documentation, and resource management.
  • Coordinates undergraduate course scheduling in collaboration with academic leadership, synthesizing curricular changes, enrollment trends, and faculty availability into effective short¿ and long'term course rotations.
  • Leads enrollment'related workflows that support student success, including course permissions, add/drop processing, and resolution of complex enrollment issues.
  • Acts as a key partner to academic advising, processing course exceptions and transfer credit articulations and maintaining advising resources related to curriculum and scheduling.
  • Analyzes curriculum and enrollment data to identify systemic issues and design operational or curricular solutions that improve student progress and program integrity.
  • Designs, maintains, and documents systems, databases, and standard operating procedures related to curriculum, scheduling, and academic operations.
  • Acts as a translator between the worlds of big picture curriculum design and granular policy, mapping the shortest path from vision to functional reality.
General Responsibilities
  • In coordination with educational leadership, faculty, and/or staff, designs curriculum for students, courses, degree programs, or schools.
  • Consults with faculty to determine curricular needs and identify gaps; creates course objectives and outcomes to reach targeted learning.
  • Reviews proposals to modify existing course curriculum and create new courses; ensures accuracy of information and determines whether proposal aligns with standards and objectives for the course.
  • Assists with preparation and dissemination of course materials, such as course syllabi, textbook selection, course packs, and other related materials.
  • Performs evaluation and assessment activities, ensuring consistency across purview, including observation of courses, preparation of course evaluation results, development of reports and outcomes for accreditation review, and analysis of feedback from faculty regarding curricular outcomes.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule (mix between 2 remote workdays and 3 in-person workdays), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
Advertised Salary
$47,000-$54,000 annually
