Description

The Office of the Queens County District Attorney ("QDA") seeks an experienced attorney to serve as the Director of Discovery Compliance & Law Enforcement Officer Witness (LEOW) Unit. The Director will oversee and coordinate the Office's discovery compliance obligations and officer disclosure functions, while providing strategic legal guidance regarding discovery practices and related prosecutorial disclosure requirements including Giglio/Brady obligations.

The Director will supervise the Discovery Compliance Unit, LEOW Unit, and Parole Unit; manage interagency coordination efforts, assist in developing office-wide policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with statutory and ethical disclosure obligations. The position requires significant supervisory experience, strong legal acumen, and the ability to manage complex operational and legal issues in a fast-paced prosecutorial environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage attorneys, coordinators, and support staff who are responsible for obtaining, tracking, and verifying discovery materials from the NYPD and other agencies.
  • Serve as a central resource to Assistant District Attorneys and executive leadership on complex discovery issues.
  • Stay current with ever-evolving discovery practices, case law and technology updates and assist in developing and implementing Office policy concerning discovery practices.
  • Maintain oversight of processes related to officer disciplinary records and credibility determinations and QDA disclosure obligations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including the New York City Police Department, other state, local and federal governmental agencies.
  • Develop and conduct training for attorneys and professional staff regarding discovery obligations and LEOW procedures.
  • Harness innovative technologies, data science and other information sharing techniques to promote the effective gathering and dissemination of discovery documents.
  • Prepare periodic compliance reports.

Qualifications:

  • Must be an attorney with at least ten years supervisory or management experience
  • Should have felony trial experience as a prosecutor, and experience collaborating with law enforcement and other governmental agencies.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must possess thorough understanding of the prosecutor's obligations, pursuant to discovery reform legislation.

Salary will be commensurate with experience. Range $144,000 to $202,731.
