WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Overview)The Director Disaster Finance Response will lead the Domestic Disaster Finance Response Team and oversee the financial infrastructure supporting domestic disaster relief operations, including purchasing processes, financial controls, financial planning, and reporting. Initially reporting to the Vice President of Humanitarian Programs Finance, the role will work closely with the Finance Director of Long-Term Recovery and Gray Sky Sustainment. The position is expected to manage three direct reports, including the Financial Response Manager, Financial Reporting Manager, and Financial Infrastructure & Controls Manager, with oversight of a broader team of approximately eight additional staff.
100% Remote: Candidates Can Live Anywhere in the US.
Scope Establish operating policies and procedures that affect departments and subordinate sections and work units. Interpret company-wide policies and procedures. Develop budgets, schedules, and performance standards for the Disaster Finance Response team as well as support domestic disaster purchasing tools and, very importantly, financial controls. Partner with Disaster Cycle Services to create budgets for the response phase of disaster relief operations and then proactively analyze and report on spend against these budgets and forecast the final response cost usually on an at least weekly schedule.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications)Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required. CPA and MBA may be preferred.
Experience: Minimum 7 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required*.
Management Experience: 5 years of management experience.
Skills & Abilities: Demonstrated proficiency in planning and overseeing analytical programs and tactical activities including purchasing tools and controls. Ability to determine client and customer requirements and translate requirements into organizational plans, exercise sound judgement in complex situations with competing interests, apply financial acumen to all initiatives, and adapt to constantly changing situations with flexible and creative approaches. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Proficiency in use of Personal Computer, word-processing, spreadsheet applications (specifically Excel), and database applications when applicable. Experience with Microsoft Power Query, Power BI, and Python or similar systems are preferred. Ability to work on a team.
Travel: Three to four weeks travel per year: Must travel to and participate in meetings and conferences throughout the Red Cross system (estimated 1-2 weeks per year). Will be required to travel to occasional meetings (approximately one to two weeks per year) and must be available to travel and deploy to at least one large disaster relief operation for an additional two weeks each year. This is a very fast paced position that will often require working during non-standard hours at no-notice due to disasters. *Combination of candidate’s education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description’s minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).
PAY INFORMATIONThe salary range $120,000-155.000/yr Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. This role is not eligible for relocation assistance. This position will be posted for a minimum of 5-days.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones and printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time. Employee must be able to travel by air, train, or vehicle for long distances. During disaster deployments, employee must be able to thrive in agile environments with long work hours and uncomfortable sleeping situations including shelters with cots.
