Position Summary

The Lead Director, Enterprise Delivery - Aetna Enterprise Integration is responsible for the successful execution of Aetna's most critical and complex integration initiatives and programs, enabling the Aetna API Framework and the enterprise APIs that integrate across systems, domains, and portfolios. This role sits within Aetna Enterprise Delivery (AED) and provides leadership across program and portfolio management, budget and schedule management, and risk/issue management/mitigation.

Via close partnership with Engineering and Product leaders, architecture, security, infrastructure, finance, and business leaders, the Lead Director is accountable for scoping major strategic integration efforts and guiding end-to-end execution to ensure business-driven results and sustainable platform outcomes. The role oversees programs of significant magnitude regarding complexity, cost, time-constraints, and cross-team dependencies; coordinates internal and external staffing where needed; and allocates appropriate resources to meet delivery commitments.

The Lead Director acts as a central connector across stakeholders, driving transparent communication, alignment, and decision-making. The role leads and develops delivery leaders (Project Managers, Scrum Masters and Program Leaders), establishes consistent governance and reporting standards, and ensures delivery practices are measurable, repeatable, and aligned to enterprise standards while enabling modern Agile and hybrid delivery approaches.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years overall technology delivery management experience

  • 5+ years in a formal leadership role managing direct reports

  • 3+ years of experience managing $100M portfolios which span multiple years and provide savings of $100M+

  • Demonstrated experience leading critical, cross-functional business and IT initiatives with enterprise-wide impact, including complex dependency and stakeholder landscapes.

  • Proven experience managing multi-year portfolios and large budgets, including forecasting, variance management, and transparency into capital and operating expenses.

  • Detailed understanding of portfolio financials and financial models (e.g., cost drivers, run vs. change, investment trade-offs, benefit/value tracking).

  • Experience leading teams comprised of Scrum Masters, Program Managers, Project Managers (and/or equivalent delivery roles), including HR responsibilities such as hiring, performance management, and talent development.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence across functions and leadership levels, including executive sponsors.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish delivery governance that ensures:

    • Scope, schedule, budget, quality, and metrics are available, accurate, and aligned to standards

    • Program and portfolio approaches are consistent, measurable, and outcomes-oriented

  • Experience applying Agile and/or hybrid delivery practices across large initiatives with multiple teams and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting integration platforms, API frameworks, shared services, or platform engineering organizations (or similar enterprise enabling capabilities).

  • Experience leading delivery for work spanning multiple consuming programs/lines of business with high dependency complexity.

  • Scrum / SAFe / Agile delivery certifications (e.g., CSM, SAFe, RTE, SPC) and/or PMP preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to:

    • Manage change and promote continuous improvement of delivery and governance processes

    • Identify improvement opportunities to optimize execution speed and effectiveness

    • Track, communicate, and improve overall team progress and delivery predictability

    • Vet business case development and support benefits/value realization analysis

  • Experience facilitating executive operating reviews, investment reviews, and cross-organization governance forums.

  • Healthcare and/or insurance enterprise experience (helpful given domain complexity and regulatory environment).
