Overview
Emory Healthcare is an academic medical center with a high acuity patient population. Our pharmacy staff work side by side with our fellow health care providers creating an interdisciplinary team approach to patient care. The Pharmacy at Emory's goal is to provide patient and family centered medication management to the patients we serve and defining a new standard of care for humankind.
This Assistant Director role is designed to serve as the operational leader for pharmacy business operations and 340B program strategy across the health system. In addition to the standard departmental leadership responsibilities outlined above, this position will provide direct oversight of the 340B program and pharmacy business operations, including supervision of business managers and coordination of contract pharmacy financial operations. The role will function as the primary integrator across pharmacy finance, supply chain, revenue cycle, and decision support, ensuring alignment of operational performance with system financial objectives. A key expectation is the ability to manage complex, cross-functional workflows (e.g., contract pharmacy, ambulatory growth, and drug spend management) while developing scalable processes to support expanding retail, specialty, and home infusion services. This position is also intended to build leadership depth and succession planning within 340B and pharmacy business operations, allowing the Corporate Director to focus on enterprise strategy, growth initiatives, and executive alignment. Health-system/hospital experience highly desired.
Description
JOB DESCRIPTION: Assists in coordinating and directing day-to-day operations for the hospital pharmacy department; oversees quality assurance, clinical and administrative services, staff development programs, and the development of policies and procedures. Supervises staff, assists in developing the department budget and ensures that daily activities are in compliance with federal, state, and organizational regulations. Assists with the planning, administration, and monitoring of the department' capital equipment, operations and personnel budgets; reviews prior budget expenses, regularly reviews year to date expenses, investigates variances and takes corrective action as necessary. Assists in developing departmental short and long term goals and objectives. Analyzes departmental strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and constraints to give direction to staff in working toward meeting objectives. Seeks input and recommendations from staff on ways to improve operations. Establishes, administers and communicates policies, procedures and related forms in accordance with state, federal, and organizational guidelines. Communicates and monitors regulatory changes and their impacts on compliance with standards and guidelines. Manages staff and employee performance. Resolves Human resource-related issues, determines staffing needs, interviews and hires staff. Provides on-going performance feedback, addresses problems, verifies competency and identifies and suggests ways to develop skills. Determines disciplinary, termination and salary actions. Monitors and directs and redirects workflow as necessary to meet established levels of productivity. Reviews and approves time sheets for department employees and submits them for payroll processing. Coordinates, monitors, and evaluates department programs for quality assurance, clinical, and support services provided by the pharmacy to ensure compliance with federal, state, and organizational regulations. Assists with department quality assurance activities for compliance with organizational, state, and federal regulatory standards. Reviews documentation which is completed on each incident in the pharmacy and incorporates pertinent information in a routine hospital information report. Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development. Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. Assists in the development, coordination, and maintenance of an on-line, electronic database and computerized system for pharmacy services. Collects, organizes, and analyzes data to generate and provide accurate and complete reports for management and/or regulatory agencies. Coordinates activities which ensure the security of department records, cash, and confidential or sensitive information; this includes issuing authorization codes for computer access, telephones, beepers and cash registers. Provides opportunities for the professional development of department staff to promote a knowledge of current trends, and practices in pharmaceutical services and to promote leading edge technology. Serves as a liaison with hospital administrators, staff, and other departments to ensure the flow of accurate and timely information. Attends meetings and actively participates on committees to ensure departmental representation in the decision-making process. Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of an accredited school of Pharmacy. Master's degree preferred. Eligible for Georgia Licensure. Candidate is required to be licensed in Georgia prior to official start date. Five years of clinical experience of which three years are in a management role. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required within 90 days.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock , Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation , Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
