Director Counseling information
What does a Director of Counseling do?
What is the difference between Director Counseling vs School Counselor?
| Aspect | Director Counseling | School Counselor |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Master's degree in counseling or related field, licensure, and often additional administrative certifications | Master's degree in school counseling or related field, state certification/license |
| Work Environment | Educational institutions, mental health agencies, or healthcare organizations, overseeing counseling programs | K-12 schools, providing direct student counseling and support services |
| Employer & Industry | Schools, educational districts, mental health organizations |
The main difference is that a Director Counseling typically oversees counseling programs at an organizational level, requiring leadership skills and broader administrative responsibilities, while a School Counselor works directly with students to provide individual and group counseling within a school setting. Both roles require similar educational backgrounds and licensure, but their scope and focus differ significantly.
