About Us

GFL is one of the largest diversified environmental services companies in North America, providing comprehensive solid waste management services from its platform of facilities throughout Canada and 18 U.S. states. Recognized by our signature fleet of bright green trucks and equipment, we offer a wide range of environmental and industrial services to businesses, communities and households, providing a consolidated and sophisticated approach to meeting our customers' needs. One of the keys to our success lies in the diversity of our services and our ability to deliver robust integrated solutions, all from a single efficient company. We believe that, by providing safe, accessible and cost-effective solutions, we encourage greater environmental responsibility and allow our customers and the communities we serve to be Green for Life.

The Role

We are looking for a talented Human Resources Director to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for acting as a lead strategic business partner, spearheading innovative change, and overseeing the strategic direction and execution of HR strategies within the assigned region. You will work closely with Operational and Corporate Executives, as well as the broader HR leadership team to design, represent, and implement high-impact HR initiatives that align with business objectives. • Lead complex labor relations matters, provide guidance on grievances/arbitrations, and partner with the Director of LR on collective agreement negotiations and proposals.

  • Contribute to total compensation design, maintain engagement survey insights, and influence leaders through organizational shifts and communication execution.

  • Seek, define, and execute cross-functional special projects and progressive initiatives to address and resolve complex organizational issues.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience: 8+ years of progressively senior-level HR experience in large, complex, multi-stakeholder, and unionized environments.

  • Education: University degree required; professional HR designation/certification required.

  • Technical Skills: Deep expertise in Labour Relations, M&A integrations, generalist HR functions, advanced Human Rights and Employment Standards compliance, and corporate documentation (policies, labour briefings, business cases).

  • Soft Skills: Excellent negotiation and communication skills, customer-focused professionalism, strong initiative, and the ability to influence change and build executive relationships.

  • Bonus Points: Proven ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on detail in a fast-paced environment, willingness to travel up to 40% across Western Canada, and experience executing global/cross-functional special projects.

What We Offer

Why join us? We believe in taking care of our team. Here is a snapshot of our total rewards you can expect:

  • Health: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.

  • Wellness: Employee Assistance Program, life insurance, and paid time-off

  • Financial: RRSP matching, profit sharing and competitive wages
