Job description

Title: Community Advocate 


Classification: Non-Exempt, Part Time 


Reports to: Manager – Climate Justice Initiatives 


Job Summary: The Community Advocate’s aim is to collect community views, understand community needs, and identify possible challenges and community-based solutions. This will be achieved by neighborhood canvassing, phone calls, attending meetings, and other relevant means of communication. The end goal of the Community Advocate is to inform the public, specifically BIPOC residents, about environmental equity issues, especial solar energy, weatherization, and electrification. 


Job Responsibilities: 

  • Builds strong relationships with members of and leaders in the community 
  • Be the main point and have direct contact with the community 
  • Attends various meetings like community meetings, governmental meetings, school board meetings, neighborhood meetings, environmental causes meetings, etc. 
  • Assists with recruitment for IMPACT programs with a focus on recruitment for the Empowered! Program 
  • Collects community feedback and relays to appropriate IMPACT managers and directors 
  • Understanding of environmental issues; distributes accurate information to the community 
  • Informs and educates community about opportunities and programs available through IMPACT and other community organizations 
  • Completes and submits all required reporting forms, including hours worked, in a timely manner 
  • Represents Agency in a courteous and professional manner at all times 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: 

Requires ability to operate telephone and personal computer for extended periods of time. Walking/canvassing is required. Local travel required.

Education and Qualifications: 

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. 
  • Valid Ohio Driver License and ability to meet agency insurability requirements 
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred 
  • Experience in social work, human services, non-profit, or community engagement preferred 
  • Resident of one of Columbus’ Opportunity Neighborhoods preferred
