Clark Nexsen is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer II. A Senior Civil Engineer II will be responsible for performing and directing civil engineering duties on multi-discipline building design projects of moderate to large scope, as well as projects that involve only civil engineering. Federal project experience-specifically NAFAC and DOD work-is highly desirable.
Compensation for this position is $125,840 - $153,920, commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. If so, the actual salary range may vary from the estimate provided.
General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following
  • Performing civil engineering duties as a Senior Civil Engineer including analysis and design involving utilities, roadways, site grading, stormwater management, erosion control, and site plan preparation.
  • Supervising and directing the work of Civil Engineers and EI/EITs assigned to the project.
  • Coordination with other design disciplines; managing the production of contract documents; and satisfying project budget and schedule requirements.
  • Concurrently leading several projects of moderate complexity and scope when required by schedule and/or resource constraints.
  • Meeting with clients to prepare and/or validate proposed scope of services.
  • Managing the Civil portion of multi-discipline projects and working with assigned Project Managers to meet project budget, schedule, goals, and objectives.
  • Coordinating, supervising, and communicating all aspects of the Civil design within multi-discipline teams to ensure that civil design details integrate properly with all other disciplines.
  • Communicating with the Contractor on Design-Build projects to verify suitability of systems and materials selected.
  • Managing and supervising Civil support services associated with the bidding process, including preparing addenda and amendments and opening and tabulating bids.
  • Managing and supervising Civil support services associated with the construction phase, including field visits, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings.
  • Ensuring staff compliance with quality control policies and procedures.
  • Working with, responding to, and taking direction from Managing Principals, Project Managers, Design Managers, Operations Directors, and senior management.
  • Assisting in presenting projects to clients, contractors, project team members, Authorities Having Jurisdiction, and members of the public through all stages of the project.
  • Actively supporting Company marketing and business development activities.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive client relationships.
  • Providing technical guidance to Civil staff.
  • Mentoring and monitoring the professional development of Civil staff.
  • Assisting Department Director and Department Head in developing new and/or revised processes and procedures.
  • Representing the Department Head (DH) when the DH is unavailable.
  • Leading staff training sessions.
  • Providing input to Department Head on staff annual performance reviews.

Required Skills
  • Must be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one U.S. state, preferably in the local jurisdiction.
  • NCEES record preferred for reciprocal licensure.
  • Understanding of sustainable design principles; LEED AP preferred.
  • Additional certifications (e.g., CFM, CDT, CCS, or CCCA) encouraged.
  • Active involvement in professional organizations like NSPE or ASCE is desirable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective presentation skills.
  • Proactive and collaborative attitude with a commitment to quality service and continuous professional growth.
  • Ability to mentor junior staff and lead by example.

Required Experience
  • Graduation from an ABET-accredited 4-, 5-, or 6-year engineering program in one of the following disciplines:
    • Civil Engineering
    • Civil and Environmental Engineering
    • Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering
    • Civil Engineering Technology
  • A post-graduate degree in Civil Engineering or a related field may be given additional consideration
  • A Senior Civil Engineer should be able to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, accounting, and information management. Additional consideration may be given for experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and stormwater modeling programs such as PCSWMM, PondPack, and SewerGEMS
  • Familiarity with design and production software to the point of understanding capabilities and limitations is highly desirable
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive civil engineering design experience in a leadership role within a Civil or multi-discipline A/E firm
  • Proven experience working on federal projects, especially for NAFAC and DOD clients is required
  • Experience as a lead designer or civil engineer in federal, state, municipal, healthcare, commercial, or higher education projects, plus experience with Design/Build and CM-at-Risk project delivery methods, is desirable

The selected candidate is expected to work in a JMT office location at least three days per week or as needed to perform assigned duties.
