Position Overview

Augment Professional Services (APS) is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Designer to support complex infrastructure, land development, utility, transportation, and facility design projects. This senior-level role is responsible for leading civil design efforts throughout the project lifecycle, including planning, proposal development, site evaluations, engineering support, design production, quality reviews, and construction documentation.

The Senior Civil Designer serves as a technical leader within multidisciplinary project teams, providing advanced design expertise while coordinating with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality project outcomes. The position plays a key role in developing civil engineering design packages, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards, maintaining project schedules and budgets, and supporting project execution from concept through construction.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead civil design activities for site development, land development, roadway systems, storm drainage systems, stormwater management facilities, utility infrastructure, airports, and industrial or commercial facilities.
  • Develop and oversee detailed engineering drawings, layouts, calculations, and design documentation for projects of varying complexity.
  • Prepare and review grading plans, utility layouts, erosion and sediment control plans, traffic control plans, and related civil engineering deliverables.
  • Interpret engineering standards, design codes, specifications, and regulatory requirements to ensure project compliance.
  • Perform and review earthwork, excavation, dredging, and site grading volume calculations.
  • Coordinate project design efforts to meet scope, schedule, quality, and budget objectives.
  • Lead drawing production activities, including design refinement, problem analysis, and development of construction documents.
  • Conduct design quality reviews and support project QA/QC processes to ensure accuracy and consistency across deliverables.
  • Present technical reports, drawings, maps, surveys, and related project information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage project drawing files, revisions, and documentation in accordance with established procedures.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve design challenges and support successful project execution.
  • Mentor, train, and provide technical guidance to junior designers and design staff.
  • Participate in client meetings, project planning sessions, and business development activities as needed.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to design best practices.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of project and client objectives.
 Required Technical Skills
  • Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Extensive experience preparing civil engineering design deliverables and construction documentation.
  • Strong understanding of site development, grading, drainage, utility infrastructure, and transportation design principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of civil engineering calculations, design methodologies, and drafting standards.
  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs, earthwork calculations, and site grading analyses.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience leading design reviews and implementing quality assurance and quality control processes.
  • Strong project coordination and document management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering and project delivery environment.
Preferred Experience / Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Drafting Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline with 13+ years of relevant experience; or
  • Associate Degree in Drafting Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field with 14+ years of relevant experience; or
  • 15+ years of progressive civil design and detailing experience in lieu of formal education.
  • Experience supporting Energy, Utilities, Transportation, Aviation, Industrial, EPC, or Infrastructure projects.
  • Field experience supporting construction, surveying, or project execution activities.
  • Previous experience mentoring and developing junior design professionals.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating with engineers, project managers, clients, and regulatory agencies.
  • Familiarity with project budgeting, scheduling, and design resource planning.
