Job description

Title: Associate Medical Director                                                                                 

Department: Logistics                                                                                                    

Job Summary: The Associate Medical Director of Clinical Logistics is responsible for assisting the SVP, Chief Logistics Officer/Medical Director in tasks including, but not limited to, providing oversight of Transfer Center Operations required to provide appropriate, effective, and efficient patient care. Oversee operations of Transfer Center and EMS Operations. Reports to the Senior Vice President/Chief Logistics Officer.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight of logistics center coordinators, EMS outreach manager, and EMS outreach coordinator
  • Oversee and manage interfacility transfer program (IFT)
    1. Assist SVP, Chief Logistics Officer/Medical Director in reviewing and developing service line protocols to facilitate safe and appropriate patient transfers for all relevant medical, surgical, and pediatric specialties and subspecialties
    2. Collaborate with other WMCHealth Network Hospitals to facilitate optimal patient movement and load balancing
    3. Review and propose modifications for policies as they relate to the IFT program
      1. Improve IFT Operations
      2. Develop, analyze, and review transfer data metrics including but not limited to time to acceptance, time to dispatch, time to arrival, case denials, and cancellations
      3. Assist the SVP, Chief Logistics Officer/Medical Director to develop quarterly reports for presentation to service lines, Medical Staff Operations and Quality Committees and Hospital Administrative Leadership
      4. Collaborate with service lines regarding IFT protocols
      5. Ensure best practice related to Transfer Agreements
      6. Demonstrate reliable, accurate understanding of EMTALA
      7. Conduct collaborative outreach to referral sources
      8. Assist SVP, Chief Logistics Officer/Medical Director in developing new transfer opportunities
      9. Establish operational improvement initiative and oversee work done by WMC Health vendors
      10. Facilitate timely transfers
      11. Work strategically toward growth of WMC Health Network transfer volume
        1. Work to eliminate transfer denials and cancellations
        2. Assist with feedback system for referring facilities regarding patient satisfaction and transfer outcomes
        3. Collaborate with service line physicians to report on timeliness and responsiveness of WMC Network Physicians
  • EMS Program
    1. Assist with oversight of air and ground transport programs including services provided by WMC Health air transport vendors
    2. Assist with and oversee non-nursing ground transport program and related services by WMC Health ambulance. EMS vendors, including STAT Team EMS Personnel
    3. Provide medical direction to stat team
    4. Maintain continuing medical education programs provided to EMS
    5. Provide oversight to EMS Coordinators across WMC Health network
    6. Provide outreach to regional EMS agencies
    7. Engage in regional and statewide protocol development and planning
    8. Identify, analyze, and review transportation data including IFTs
    9. Monitor PCRs for compliance
    10. Collaborate with WMC Health Marketing Department to develop communications
    11. Help coordinator, lead, and partner with EMS leaders at WMC Health network hospitals

Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience:

  • 7-9 years of experience in a clinical health care setting

Education:   

  • Graduate degree from an accredited medical school (MD or DO)

Licenses / Certifications:

  • Possession of a valid medical license in the state of New York
