Job Overview:

The Director of Benefits leads the strategy, design, administration, compliance, and continuous improvement of employee benefits programs across a multi-location manufacturing organization. This role oversees health, welfare, retirement, wellbeing, and leave programs to ensure they are competitive, cost-effective, compliant, and aligned with business needs.

This position partners with HR, Finance, Legal, operations, executive leadership, vendors, consultants, and healthcare providers to enhance the employee experience, manage benefit costs, and support employee health and wellbeing. The role also provides oversight of the onsite employee health clinic in Warroad, Minnesota.

Highlights of your role:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive benefits strategy that supports talent attraction, retention, employee wellbeing, and financial sustainability.
  • Oversee administration of health, welfare, retirement, wellbeing, leave, and voluntary benefit programs.
  • Lead annual enrollment strategy, communication, and implementation.
  • Manage vendor, broker, consultant, carrier, and third-party administrator relationships, including performance expectations, renewals, negotiations, and RFPs.
  • Provide strategic and operational oversight of the onsite employee health clinic in Warroad, Minnesota.
  • Monitor benefits costs, claims trends, utilization, clinic performance, and population health metrics to identify opportunities for improved value and cost management.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable benefit regulations, including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, Medicare requirements, and retirement plan regulations.
  • Partner with internal and external legal counsel on compliance matters, plan documentation, audits, reporting, and regulatory filings.
  • Develop benefits communication and education strategies that improve employee understanding, engagement, and access to programs.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the benefits team while collaborating across HR, Payroll, Finance, Legal, Safety, Operations, and senior leadership.
You're a good fit if you have (or if you can):
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in employee benefits, healthcare strategy, or total rewards.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing benefits teams and programs in a large, complex organization.
  • Experience with self-funded and fully insured health plans.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare, retirement, welfare, leave, and wellbeing programs.
  • Experience managing external vendors, consultants, carriers, and healthcare partners.
  • Strong financial, analytical, project management, communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
Also want to make sure you have:
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • CEBS, CBP, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or other relevant professional certification.
  • Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or multi-site operational environment.
  • Experience overseeing onsite healthcare clinics or employer-sponsored health centers.
  • Knowledge of population health management, wellbeing strategies, and healthcare analytics.
