Job Description:

L3Harris is seeking a Sr. Specialist, Manufacturing Engineering to support production of next-generation, high-speed avionics hardware for our Customers. This role is responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining manufacturing methods for complex electronic and electro-mechanical assemblies, with a focus on safety, quality, delivery, cost, and throughput performance.

The selected candidate will serve as an experienced manufacturing engineering professional supporting the production of circuit card assemblies (CCA), sub-assemblies, cable/harness assemblies, chassis assemblies, and higher-level system integrations. This individual will independently lead process improvement efforts, drive resolution of manufacturing issues, and work cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Test, Reliability, Design Engineering, Supply Chain, and Program teams to achieve production and program objectives.

This position requires strong technical judgment, the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment, and demonstrated expertise in electronics manufacturing processes, process improvement, automation, tooling, and root cause corrective action. In-depth familiarity with printed circuit board design, fabrication, and assembly processes is highly beneficial.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead manufacturing engineering support for production hardware to ensure safe, repeatable, and efficient processes that meet quality and delivery requirements
  • Develop, implement, optimize, and sustain manufacturing processes for complex avionics hardware including CCAs, microelectronic assemblies, cable/harness assemblies, chassis, and higher-level assemblies
  • Generate, maintain, and improve Assembly Method Sheets (AMS), work instructions, process flows, tooling requirements, and related manufacturing documentation
  • Evaluate manufacturing constraints, identify process risks, and implement solutions to improve producibility, first-pass yield, cycle time, and capacity
  • Design and develop manufacturing tools, fixtures, and systems with emphasis on mistake-proofing, standardization, ergonomics, and operator effectiveness
  • Create manufacturing fixturing using in-house additive manufacturing resources and other appropriate tooling methods
  • Drive automation and semi-automation initiatives for manual manufacturing processes such as torque application, chemical dispensing, and similar assembly operations
  • Support development, implementation, validation, and programming of smart tools and automated manufacturing equipment
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and support to manufacturing technicians and operators to ensure proper execution of manufacturing processes
  • Interface effectively with internal and external customers and serve as a key manufacturing engineering representative across cross-functional teams
  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective/preventive actions related to process escapes, nonconformances, recurring defects, and yield issues
  • Support MRB activities including disposition of discrepant hardware, defect trend analysis, and implementation of corrective actions
  • Review and approve drawing revisions and parts list updates and ensure timely incorporation of engineering changes into production
  • Analyze workflow, labor content, line balance, and material flow to improve manufacturing performance and test throughput
  • Support lean and continuous improvement initiatives of both technical and operational nature to reduce waste and improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost
  • Use data, metrics, and trend analysis to monitor process performance and drive measurable improvements
  • Coordinate manufacturing readiness activities for new product introduction, process changes, and configuration updates
  • Prioritize and execute in an environment with multiple concurrent tasks and responsibilities
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Government Security Clearance or a FAA Public Trust Clearance

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with CCA manufacturing processes, cable assemblies, and electro-mechanical assemblies
  • Working knowledge and general understanding of IPC -6012, IPC-6013, IPC-A-600 and IPC 6018
  • Background in manufacturing of electronics for Military and Government Systems
  • Experience in Lean principles; mistake proofing, 3P, 5S+1, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Root Cause Analysis, Cause & Effect, Gemba, Pull-Flow, etc
  • Familiarity in Control or similar MRP based system and Aegis based Manufacturing Execution System
  • Experience with Aegis based Manufacturing Execution System (i.e. Fusion V7, FactoryLogix)
  • Experience with Automated chemical dispensing process development
  • Experience with Automated/Semi-automated torque tools process development
  • Knowledge in PTC CREO, technical writing, MS Project and/or MS SharePoint.
