Job description

Freese and Nichols is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support our growing electrical team in Tampa or Orlando, Florida. As an Electrical Engineer, you will design and deliver electrical systems for water and wastewater systems for municipal, federal and private-sector projects while supporting project design and construction delivery, quality control, and the development of junior engineers.
What You'll Do
  • Design complete electrical systems, including power, lighting, generator systems, and controls for water and wastewater treatment plant and pump station facilities
  • Analyze existing electrical systems and develop cost-effective improvements and modifications to rehabilitate or expand existing facilities
  • Support projects through all phases, from pre-proposal and design through construction
  • Prepare and review electrical design calculations, drawings, and specifications
  • Assess electrical equipment and witness on-site electrical testing and startup
  • Perform quality control reviews to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Coordinate tasks to support project schedules, budgets, and technical requirements
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior engineers
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and subcontractors
  • Travel as needed to support project execution and site activities

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer license in Florida
  • 5+ years of electrical engineering experience
  • Experience supporting all phases of design from pre-proposal through construction
  • Experience working with clients and subcontractors
  • Knowledge of construction documents
  • Strong understanding of NEC, NESC and NFPA 820
  • Understanding of power system analysis such as short circuit analysis, motor starting analysis and load flow studies
  • Ability to travel as required

Preferred
  • Experience designing electrical power, lighting, and controls systems for water and wastewater treatment plants and pump stations
  • Related transferrable experience in designing similar systems in the following industries: power generation, pulp/paper, chemical, midstream or O&G refineries
  • Ability to obtain Professional Engineer licensure in additional U.S. states
  • Proficiency with SKM or ETAP
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD
  • Proficiency with Revit
