The position reports to the Assistant Vice President for Procurement and Business Services, and is responsible for establishing the vision, priorities, and operational strategy for accounts payable services across the institution. The Director ensures the timely, accurate, and compliant disbursement of payments while advancing operational excellence, financial stewardship, customer service, and continuous improvement in support of the University's academic, research, and administrative missions. The Director serves as the senior leader for Accounts Payable and oversees the Assistant Directors of Accounts Payable and their teams. The role is responsible for departmental operations, performance management, internal controls, and service delivery across centralized and delegated accounts payable operations. This role ensures that vendors are paid timely, accurately, and in accordance with University of Maryland, USM, and State of Maryland policies and procedures. As a member of the Procurement and Business Services leadership team, the Director serves as an advisor to the Assistant Vice President and collaborates with campus and system partners to improve financial operations, modernize business processes, and support enterprise initiatives. The Director ensures compliance with University policy, State of Maryland regulations, federal requirements, and generally accepted accounting principles. About Accounts Payable at the University of Maryland, College Park The Accounts Payable department supports the University's financial integrity by processing payments to vendors, contractors, employees, students, and other stakeholders. As part of the Division of Finance, the function ensures timely and accurate disbursement of funds in support of academic, research, and administrative operations while maintaining strong internal controls and exceptional service to the campus community. Physical Demands: Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to lift and small carry parcels, packages and other items, to walk short distances, and drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Licenses/ Certifications: N/A# **Minimum Qualifications**Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.Experience: Ten (10) years of professional accounting or finance experience.
