Aecon Utilities Inc. has an opportunity for a Directional Driller, in our New Mexico project location.
Reporting to the Superintendent, the Horizontal Directional Driller will be responsible for all phases of any directional drilling tasks directed by the site foreman in order to meet or exceed client expectations. This will not be a unionized position.
This is an evergreen posting, qualified candidates will be contacted as new work is awarded.
What You'll Do Here:
  • Conduct pre-trip/walk-around safety inspection.
  • Ability to operate Horizontal Directional Drill and/or locating equipment independently and safely.
  • Provide technical support to clients and crew members as required.
  • Keep abreast of all directional drilling techniques and all surveying methods.
  • Manage inventory and supplies.
  • Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving of loads and conduct in response for hand or audio signals from team members.
  • Understand an analyze locate marks, stakes and property markers.
  • Ensure all reporting requirements are fulfilled and communicated daily to the foreman or coordinator.
  • Able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Work with commitment to timelines and deadlines on a daily basis.
  • Adhering to site and Aecon specific policies and regulations.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision as directed by the site foreman
  • Maintain excellent communication between members of the team and clients.
  • Ability to train, coach, and mentor new hires.
  • Working as a member of the team by assisting other members when required.

What You'll Bring to the Team:
  • Horizontal directional drilling experience or training.
  • Experience running a Vermeer or Ditch Witch HDD drills
  • Familiar with Digitrak Locating Equipment (F5, F5 Falcon) an asset.
  • Valid state drivers- heavy truck and trailer License Preferred.
  • Complete client's site specific training as required.
  • Thorough knowledge of state-of-the-art drilling and surveying technologies and practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with managers, peers, and clients.
