Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Ship Captain is responsible for the safety of the vessel and passengers at all times. The Captain is the sole navigational officer for the vessel and ensures all navigational and propulsion machinery is in satisfactory operating order.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Know your work schedule and follow it with a high degree of reliability.
2. Interact with passengers/guests, vendors, and co-workers in a professional and customer service manner.
3. Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming.
4. Perform your job according to standard operating procedures.
5. Read, understand and follow all policies, procedures and practices as stated in the Employee Handbook.
6. Responsible for the safety of passengers and adherence to the agreed upon Beachside Resort / Water Taxi Schedule
7. Operate the vessel at a safe speed and exercise sound judgement and prudent seamanship
8. Promptly report accidents, injuries, and property damage per U.S.C.G regulations
9. Conduct daily checks of navigational equipment
10. Keep accurate communication flowing freely between Beachside Management and Water Taxi Crew
11. Inform management promptly of any weather, maintenance, out of service situations or guest complaints.
12. Promote excellent guest service by demonstrating friendly, courteous and helpful attitudes toward all guests/passengers.
13. Attend all scheduled training classes and meetings.
14. Be responsible for crew (Mate) behavior, uniform, work ethic and training.
15. Continue to learn and grow in your position.
16. Perform any reasonable request as assigned or directed by management.
17. Provide for a safe work environment by following all safety and security procedures and rules.
18. Arrange for reasonable accommodations for person(s) with disabilities.
19. Assist person(s) with a disability.
20. Comply with all applicable federal, state, local and U.S.C.G laws and ordinances as they apply to the vessel, guest's and employees.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Safely operate Ship in accordance with US Coast Guard regulations
• Pre and Post safety and engine checks at the start and end of every shift
• Assist passengers on and off the Ship
• Greet all guests upon arrival and departure. Engage in conversation about Key West and the Beachside Resort during transport
• Clean up at the End of Day and general vessel maintenance
• Responsible to refuel and schedule pump outs as needed
• Obtain a valid First Aid/CPR Card within 30 days of employment
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
EDUCATION: High School graduate or GED
EXPERIENCE:
Must possess a U.S.C.G License to Operate a passenger vessel of 25+ tons.
One year's previous experience as a passenger vessel captain required.
Must possess a valid Driver's License
Must be willing to work flexible hours as required by Beachside Resort Schedule
