Job description

JOB TITLE:                Food Services Waitstaff

DEPARTMENT:        Food Services

REPORTS TO:           Dining Room Manager

STATUS:                       Full-Time and Part Time

SCHEDULE:              11:30AM - 7:30PM - FT; 4:00PM - 7:30PM - PT

SALARY:                    $22.00 + DOE. Non-Exempt/Hourly


The Wait Staff Person is responsible for providing residents, guests and staff who take meals in the dining room with prompt, efficient and courteous service.  They set tables in an attractive manner prior to customers arriving for meals, serves food (including beverages) in a professional manner, and clears tables and cleans dining areas in a timely manner.  They provide information to customers regarding food and meal services.  They receive and respond to comments from customers relating to Food Service.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge and Skill

  • Must have an excellent customer service orientation, and pleasant and cheerful disposition. Must be reliable, and have good accuracy & attention to detail regarding menu items and ordering.
  • Prefer one or more years of experience working in a Food Service setting or dealing directly with customers.
  • Demonstrates patience, a genuine caring attitude toward the elderly and disabled persons, flexibility, a positive outlook, the ability to focus on the strengths of other people, and a healthy sense of humor.
  • Ability to tolerate and diffuse angry or aggressive behavior of customers, some of whom may suffer from short-term memory loss.
  • Basic knowledge of therapeutic diets.
  • Basic knowledge of sanitary practices and Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points (HAACP) guidelines.
  • Ability to read and write menu items in English.
  • Holds current State of Washington Food Handler’s permit.
  • Demonstrated skill and experience in all of the categories mentioned as Specific Duties and Responsibilities.
