DIGITIZATION TECHNICIAN NE - LEVEL 9SALARY: $ 22.67GENERAL DEFINITION:The purpose of this position is responsible for the digitization of archival material, editing and upload of digital media to a CMS, and programming utilizing the digital media.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the supervision of the Tribal Archivist.
SUPERVISION EXCERCISED: None
DUTIES:Facilitates the conversion of archival material to digital media through the use of scanning and photography equipment. - Responsible for attribution, maintenance and digitization of Tribal Records (Materials include documents, photographs, maps, books, and other materials)
- Digitize Tribal records including but not limited to: Tribal Resolutions, ordinances, codes, and special interest files such as Fort Wingate, Bears Ears National Monument, etc.
- Capture digital images from paper, film, or other media according to specifications and standards.
- Perform material preparation, collection, and data entry
- Responsible for handling materials and information in a conscientious and organized manner
- Careful handling of fragile books, and other archival materials for scanning operations.
- Evaluating scanned materials to establish that scanning has been carried out accurately
- Troubleshooting basic scanning or PC issues.
- Programming utilizing Digital Media
- Collaborate with Archive staff for online exhibits, demonstrations, and other programming to overcome the digital divide.
- Assist curate online exhibits.
- Assist with creation of blogs, videos, and podcasts involving archive's digital media
Edit Digital Images for best quality, including Archival Masters and Access Copies. - Administers inspection of digital images; and collection of metadata to be included upon upload to the Ashiwi.org site and/or to a CMS (content Management System)
- Conducts an inspection to digital images for completeness, image quality, proper resolution and bit depth.
- Completes modifications to images such as cropping, rotating, and sharpening images.
- Perform image inspection and collection of metadata
- Capture metadata and record information in a spreadsheet and/or appropriate database
- Edit digital images using Adobe photoshop and other editing software.
Upload of Digital Media to the website, to the CMS, and to back-up locations.- Collaborate with POZ IT on the upload of certain materials like Tribal resolutions and ordinances to the Ashiwi.org site.
- Utilize Murkutu CMS for the upload of digital media
- Organize digital media for ease of access and according to protocols on Mukurtu.
- Work with Archive staff to establish access and protocols for the Pueblo of Zuni community, organization, and leadership.
Performs other duties as required or necessary MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of digitization quality control procedures. Knowledge of file naming conventions. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, G suite, and Adobe photoshop or other editing software. Knowledge of cultural and intellectual property rights. Knowledge of archival master formats and access copy formats. Skilled at handling material fragile in nature without damage. Ability to handle materials and information in a conscientious and organized way. Must have strong multitasking and prioritization skills. Ability to perform an inspection of digital images for completeness, image quality, proper resolution, and bit depth in accordance with Archive standards. Ability to use keyboard and work at a computer for extended period of time. Ability to upload and organize digital media in a Content management system. Ability to work productively and independently. Ability to maintain a high level of attentiveness to detail and quality, aptitude for problem solving. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with little supervision. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to establish positive relations with other staff and organization.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCEAssociates Degree in Library Science, Museum Studies, Digital Media, Native American Studies, or an adjacent field preferred with four (4) years of experience digital scanning and photography including a variety of digitization equipment and experience with Adobe photoshop or other imaging software.
LICENSE & CERTIFICATES:Must possess a valid New Mexico Driver's License with no DWI/DUI convictions within the past three (3) years. Must be insurable for liability purposes.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS:Position is subject to a Pre-Employment drug testing. Position is safety sensitive and will be subject to random drug screening for the duration of employment. Must undergo and successfully pass a thorough character background check including FBI Fingerprint. May require some work in the evenings and on weekends.
