Job description

We are currently recruiting for a Digital Finishing Operator (ABG) to join our 2nd shift team! The Finishing Operator is focused on setup and operation of commercial label inspector machines to include visual quality control. They will operate equipment to slit continuous lengths of printed material into strips of specified width.
This position offers onsite training and the opportunity to learn a valuable skilled trade in the printing industry. Employees will have unlimited growth potential and the chance to continuously advance your career.
2nd Shift - 4:00pm-2:30am Mon-Thurs (10 hours)
Responsibilities:
  • Machine Operation & Set-Up: Set up, adjust, and operate AB Graphic (ABG) finishing lines, including flexo units, semi-rotary die-cutting, UV/IR curing, hot/cold foil, embossing, slitting, screen printing and rewinding.
  • HP Register & Alignment: Load and register printed web rolls from HP Indigo digital presses into the finishing machine, maintaining precise print-to-cut registration and web tension control.
  • Job Changeovers: Perform fast, efficient job setups by mounting flexible dies, preparing varnishes/inks, setting slitting blades, and aligning sensor eyes to minimize downtime and substrate waste.
  • Quality Inspection: Inspect web runs manually and monitor inline automated inspection systems (e.g., AVT) to catch matrix breaks, registration drift, missing labels, color variance, or surface defects.
  • Job Specification Auditing: Verify finished rolls against job tickets and proofs for exact dimensions, roll direction, core size, label count, and coating cure/adhesion.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine daily and weekly maintenance on ABG converting lines, including cleaning anilox rollers, impression cylinders, slitting knives, and sensor lenses.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve operational issues mid-run, including tension spikes, web weave, varnish streaking, die strike depth, and registration drift.
  • Data & Inventory Tracking: Log job completion, scrap rates, downtime, and raw material usage into the plant MIS/ERP system, ensuring accurate reporting and seamless job handoffs.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • One year of experience in a manufacturing environment, printing or packaging industry experience preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to read and interpret ruler, scales and other measurement devices.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and frequently is required to walk
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with or without mechanical assistance
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
