What is digital ministry?

Digital ministry refers to the use of digital technologies and online platforms to carry out the mission and activities of a religious organization. This can include livestreaming services, hosting virtual prayer meetings, sharing sermons on social media, and providing pastoral care through email or messaging apps. The goal of digital ministry is to connect with congregants and seekers who may not be able to attend in person, and to extend the church’s reach beyond its physical location. Digital ministry has become increasingly important in recent years, especially as more people turn to the internet for spiritual resources. It allows faith communities to remain connected, foster engagement, and share their message in innovative ways.

How does a digital ministry professional typically collaborate with other church staff and volunteers to enhance online engagement?

A Digital Ministry professional works closely with pastors, communications teams, and volunteers to create and manage content across digital platforms such as social media, live streams, and the church website. Regular collaboration involves planning online services, developing digital outreach initiatives, and training volunteers to engage with the congregation virtually. Open communication is essential to ensure online messaging aligns with the church’s mission and maintains a welcoming, interactive environment for both members and visitors. This teamwork fosters a strong sense of community and helps extend the church’s reach beyond traditional in-person gatherings.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a digital ministry leader, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Digital Ministry Leader, you need a background in ministry or theology, digital communication expertise, and experience with online community engagement. Familiarity with content management systems, social media platforms, live streaming tools, and digital analytics is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, creativity, and adaptability help foster meaningful connections and respond to the evolving needs of online faith communities. These skills ensure effective outreach, engagement, and spiritual support in a digital environment.

Job description

At Elevation Church, we look to link arms in ministry with those who are passionate about stepping into their God-given calling. While we're a staff from all different backgrounds and walks of life, our mission is the same - to reach people with the Gospel. We're grounded in scripture and guided by our values, so check out our website (www.elevationchurch.org) to be sure you're aligned before you step into the application process with us, particularly paying attention to our Beliefs and our Code.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist the lead Online Production Director with programming, rehearsals, set up, and execution of all Online production events.
  • Lead, care for, and develop the online production volunteers.
  • Train online production volunteers to use live production technologies effectively in our worship experiences.
  • Collaborate with the broadcast tech team to manage and maintain all gear for local and remote broadcasts.
  • Assist with preparing all files, graphics, and videos for the weekend and event broadcasts.
  • Oversee the process of scheduling online hosts, remote broadcast producers, and other roles needed for the online experience.
  • Work closely with other members of the Live Production Department to identify and explore opportunities for greater impact.
  • Assist with non-broadcast church and departmental events (as needed)
MUST-HAVES
  • Active participation in a church (we look for a lifestyle of inviting people to church, volunteering, generosity, and prioritizing community)
  • Working knowledge of live production or broadcast environments (live streaming, switching, graphics, and video playback).
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly in live production settings.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when preparing broadcast elements and managing schedules.
  • Ability to lead and develop volunteers in a technical production environment.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced environments and during live events.
NICE-TO-HAVES
  • Experience working in a non-profit environment or ministry setting, particularly in church production, live events, or digital ministry environments.
DAY-TO-DAY
  • We're a Sunday-Thursday work environment. Monday-Thursday, we're in the office (8:30AM - 5PM); on Sunday, we're supporting the weekend worship experience either directly in our roles or by choosing a weekly serving opportunity at one of our Elevation Church campuses.
  • There's a lot to accomplish each week, so we're pretty fast-paced. We're also not afraid to pivot a strategy or project quickly to meet the needs of the weekend - adaptability is a key competence for us.
  • Yes, we work hard. But we're good at playing hard, too. We're a creative staff, so there's no shortage of activities around our offices to have some fun!
  • You can't help but grow on our staff. You'll be around some incredible people. Professional development opportunities will be all around you, both in structured and unstructured ways.
  • We expect you to be disciplined in your spiritual practices - be in your Bible, spend time with the Lord in prayer, meditate on and apply the weekly sermon.
  • Bring your full self to every project, conversation, and initiative at hand.
BENEFITS
  • Elevation Church pays 100% of every employee's medical benefits for full-time staff
  • 403b with 4% match
  • Dental & Vision benefits
  • Paid time off for life, vacations, and rest
  • Elevation Church subsidizes 6 sessions of counseling annually
  • Basic Life Insurance for employee, spouse, and child(ren)
