Compensation Details

  • Marketing Generalist 18: Salaries typically range from $96,557 to $128,743 annually, based on qualifications and experience.

Location

  • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week (subject to change).
  • This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto or Montreal.

Team Overview

Reporting into the Director, Web Experience, the Web Strategist will work in the Web Experience Team to drive strategic initiatives on our website. The role also collaborates closely with the Customer Experience team (CX) to ensure website initiatives align with enterprise-wide CX objectives.

The Web Strategist plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the transformation of EDC.ca. This role is accountable for bringing EDC’s digital experience vision and cross-channel customer experience strategy to life through strong strategic leadership, executional guidance, and continuous optimization.

What You Will Be Doing

Strategy & Planning

  • Develop website strategies and roadmaps aligned with EDC’s digital and customer experience vision, including long-term and interim states
  • Partner with the CX COE to support the definition of target-state customer journeys and digital channel vision
  • Work with business analysts, team members, and stakeholders to ensure strategies are execution-ready
  • Conduct research, current-state analysis, and industry benchmarking to identify best practices
  • Translate strategy into actionable objectives, defining success metrics and resource needs
  • Develop data strategies to leverage insights and enable personalized digital experiences
  • Collaborate with designers to create user flows aligned with target personas
  • Support the development and execution of scalable personalization strategies
  • Co-develop content strategies including SEO, GEO, and AIO
  • Support accessibility strategies spanning content, markup, and technology
  • Participate in annual and quarterly planning with business, technology, and delivery partners

Operational Guidance

  • Support execution of best-practice web strategies across design, content, and development
  • Provide guidance on requirements, design, development, and data collection
  • Monitor web performance, user behavior, and industry trends to recommend continuous improvements
  • Collaborate with UX designers to enhance usability and audience relevance

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Support leadership in defining short-term and long-term strategic goals
  • Ensure alignment across web, search, generative AI, content, and personalization strategies
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing, IT, and cross-functional teams
  • Advise teams on best practices in design, development, and content management
  • Support designers to ensure that UX and UI align with the strategic vision

Project Requirements

  • Drive web transformation initiatives, including website redesigns, content strategy, and data capture strategy
  • Ensure alignment with broader marketing channels (campaigns, paid media, social, email)
  • Collaborate on platform migrations and integration of new technologies, including Generative AI

What We Are Looking For

  • Undergraduate degree in Marketing, Digital Media, Communication or a related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience
  • Strong strategic thinking with the ability to connect digital initiatives to business and customer outcomes
  • Deep understanding of usability and user-centric design principles
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex topics across audiences
  • Experience with project management and agile methodologies
  • Knowledge of CMS platforms, SEO practices, GEO, and web analytics tools

What Will Make You Stand Out

  • Experience with Adobe AEM
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG)
  • Bilingual in French and English
