TITLE: Social Media Contractor

REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Strategy and Education

CLASSIFICATION: Contractual (approximately 40 hours per month)

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:

Turning Point, Inc in Mount Clemens, MI is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization. Turning Point, Inc empowers survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking through comprehensive services and resources while advocating for community action to end oppression and violence. We offer emergency shelter, housing, advocacy/counseling, forensic nurse examiner program & first response advocacy services, 24-hour hotline, personal protection order assistance and legal advocacy, community education, and systems change.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Social Media Contractor will support Turning Pointโ€™s online presence, community engagement, and promotion of programs, events, and organizational initiatives. Working approximately 40 hours per month, this contractor will create and publish mission-aligned content across Turning Pointโ€™s social media platforms, coordinate with staff, and help elevate the organizationโ€™s voice in the digital space. This is an independent contractor role; the contractor is responsible for invoicing Turning Point monthly for hours worked.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience managing social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or similar) for a nonprofit, business, or organization
  • Ability to create compelling written content and visual assets that reflect an organizationโ€™s brand and voice
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate in-person and remotely with staff
  • Understanding of or commitment to learning about trauma-informed communication and sensitive subject matter
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and proactively communicate about priorities
  • Experience with basic photography or video capture for events is a plus

EDUCATION

No specific degree required. Relevant experience in social media management, communications, marketing, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with non-traditional backgrounds who can demonstrate strong content creation skills are encouraged to apply.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and publish a minimum of five (5) social media posts per week across Turning Pointโ€™s designated platforms
  • Develop content that aligns with Turning Pointโ€™s mission, brand guidelines, and organizational voice
  • Coordinate with supervising staff regarding upcoming events, awareness campaigns, program highlights, and organizational announcements
  • Submit all content for approval through Turning Pointโ€™s designated content approval process before publishing
  • Attend Turning Point events when possible to capture photos, videos, and content for social media use
  • Participate in regular check-in meetings with supervising staff to review content planning, priorities, and feedback
  • Participate in quarterly strategy meetings with the Turning Point team to align social media efforts with agency goals
  • Maintain confidentiality of any sensitive information related to staff, volunteers, donors, or survivors
  • Complete required onboarding steps, including a Confidentiality Form, Confidentiality Training, Day One of Turning Pointโ€™s CORE training, Agency Tour, and any additional assigned trainings
  • Submit a monthly invoice documenting hours worked and tasks completed; payment will be issued upon receipt and approval
  • Uphold Turning Pointโ€™s mission, values, and trauma-informed approach in all content and communications

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must pass central registry and criminal background check as a condition of employment.
  • Must have reliable transportation, insurance, a valid Michigan Driverโ€™s License and a good driving record.
  • Must have the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Must be able to work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced office environment.
  • Allow for flexibility in job function and schedule, including occasional evening and weekend hours.
  • Ability to lift 20lbs.
  • Ability to climb stairs and stand for long periods of time.
