MEDIA & DIGITAL LITERACY INSTRUCTOR


We are excited to invite a passionate and experienced Media & Digital Literacy Instructor to join our team! Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is searching for an experienced Media & Digital Literacy Instructor Teacher for our Families w/ Children Facility in the Jamaica area of Queens, NY. As the Media & Digital Literacy Instructor, you will play a pivotal role in teaching students, ranging from youth in after-school programs to adults in continuing education, the skills necessary to navigate, create, and critically analyze digital content. The instructor will lead engaging lessons in digital media, technology tools, and online safety, empowering learners to effectively use technology in both personal and professional settings. ABOUT HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS:

Homes for the Homeless operates shelters for families experiencing homelessness in NYC. Our family residences are more than just a place to sleep. Families can make the most of their stay through accessing an array of onsite programs. Many of these programs are also available to people living in the local community. Our goal is to have a positive impact so families can thrive long after they leave our shelters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Designing and delivering curriculum focused on digital literacy, media production, and responsible online behavior.
  • Lead engaging lessons in digital media, technology tools, online safety, family literacy, and computer training.
  • Maintain an organized and well-managed classroom for both after-school and adult programs.
  • Provide individualized support, foster a collaborative learning environment, and assess student progress.
  • Work collaboratively with other after-school teachers and adult education staff to develop cohesive, interdisciplinary lessons and to share best practices.
  • Assist participants in identifying and accessing community services/resources which relate to the familyโ€™s needs.
  • Evaluate student progress through projects such as website/blog design, digital storytelling and video projects.
  • Track attendance and participation.
  • Offer adult classes focused on social media for personal and professional growth, such as creating a LinkedIn profile, using Facebook for community building, or using Instagram for business.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Education, Media Studies, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience teaching computer literacy.
  • Experience with various technology tools, such as Microsoft Office, Google Suite, video editing software, coding platforms, and web design.
  • Strong knowledge of computer literacy and digital media tools and the ability to teach complex concepts in an understandable and engaging manner.
  • Ability to manage a diverse classroom and adjust teaching strategies for different age groups (children, teens, and adults).
  • Experience developing and adapting lesson plans.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
