Job Description
Position Title: Electrical / PCB Design Engineer (Redesign / Altium Focus)
Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract opportunity for an Electrical / PCB Design Engineer with our client located in Seattle, WA. This role is focused on the redesign of existing PCBs, requiring significant Altium schematic and layout work.
Job Description:
  • We have an urgent contract opening for an Electrical / PCB Design Engineer centered on enhancing existing designs and working with manufacturing partners to improve Design for Manufacturing (DfM).
  • This role requires assisting with the redesign of existing PCBs.
  • The primary focus is significant Altium schematic and layout work.
  • The engineer will be working with manufacturing partners to establish and improve DfM (Design for Manufacturing).
  • Design scope is primarily standard digital designs with some power delivery and limited integration of RF components.
  • The team offers full support; the role will have oversight by our lead principal engineer.

Job Responsibilities:
  • PCB Redesign & Layout: Execute detailed schematic and layout work primarily using Altium Designer for existing PCBs.
  • DfM Improvement: Work closely with internal teams and manufacturing partners to implement design changes that enhance manufacturability, cost efficiency, and production yield.
  • Design Execution Scope: Focus primarily on standard digital designs. PCB complexity ranges from simple 4-layer boards up to 10-12 layer boards. Includes power delivery circuits and limited RF components (simple routing of antenna traces to connectors).
  • Collaboration & Support: Receive oversight and support from a Lead Principal Engineer, with RF experts available to assist and validate designs.
  • Documentation: Maintain and update comprehensive documentation for all schematic and layout revisions.

Job Qualifications:
  • Experience Level: Proven professional experience in Electrical Engineering and PCB design. Minimum 2 years of highly relevant Altium/PCB layout experience is required (3-5 years is ideal).
  • Altium Mastery: Extensive, recent, hands-on experience with Altium Designer (schematic capture and layout) is mandatory. The company will provide the necessary tools and design library.
  • DfM Expertise: Demonstrated ability to understand and apply Design for Manufacturing (DfM) principles in a production environment.
  • Hardware Foundation: Solid working knowledge of standard digital design principles, power circuits, and signal integrity.
  • Communication: Effective communication skills for collaboration with principal engineers and manufacturing partners.

Preferred Job Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with higher layer count boards (up to 12 layers).
  • Understanding of basic RF principles related to simple antenna trace routing.

Job Details:
  • Job Type: Contract (~2-3 months estimated duration, with potential for extension).
  • Location: Seattle, WA (Hybrid: In-office 3+ days per week preferred. Remote work is possible for exceptional candidates, but this may limit ability to continue beyond the initial contract term, as the long-term goal is to hire full-time in-person staff.)
  • Pay Range: $80-$115/hr.

Benefits Package: Protingent offers competitive salaries, insurance plan options (HDHP plan or POS plan), education/certification reimbursement, pre-tax commuter benefits, Paid Time Off (PTO), and an administered 401k plan.
