Brief Description

The Manager, Digital Content is responsible for:

Advancing the CAP's digital content and communications ecosystem through website governance, digital channel strategy, podcast strategy and operations, analytics, performance measurement, optimization, and stakeholder consultation. The role ensures CAP's digital communications channels support organizational priorities, strengthen member and customer engagement, and deliver measurable outcomes. 

This position partners across Communications, Marketing, Membership, Advocacy, Education, Information Services, Publications, staff leaders, volunteer leaders, vendors, and business stakeholders to translate organizational priorities into effective digital experiences and integrated communications strategies. 

The role also serves as a digital innovation resource by monitoring emerging trends, artificial intelligence tools, search behavior, audience expectations, and communications technologies; evaluating practical applications; and educating staff and members on evolving digital practices and opportunities.

Specific Duties

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Website Governance, Content Strategy, and Digital Experience 

  • Lead content governance for CAP digital properties, including CAP.org, YourPathologist.org, files.cap.org, and related web platforms. 
  • Develop, maintain, and improve content standards, publishing workflows, governance processes, and content lifecycle practices. 
  • Provide strategic guidance on content architecture, accessibility, search engine optimization (SEO), answer engine optimization (AEO), generative engine optimization (GEO), search strategy, web writing, and digital user experience.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for CAP's digital ecosystem, including WordPress, WP Engine, Elementor, Rank Math, and related digital content technologies.
  • - Manage and optimize content, site structure, search performance, and user experience across CAP's digital platforms.
  • - Partner with Information Services, vendors, and platform providers to support incident response, security-related communications, platform outages, access issues, deployment conflicts, and other critical digital operational matters.
  • Partner with content contributors, UX, developers, business owners, and agency partners to improve usability, findability, accuracy, and engagement. 
  • Ensure digital content reflects CAP brand, voice, style, accessibility expectations, and audience-centered communications principles. 

Digital Channel Strategy and Audience Engagement 

 

  • Lead strategy and optimization for social media, YouTube, video, and other digital communications channels. 
  • Develop channel-specific recommendations to improve member, customer, and stakeholder engagement. 
  • Support integrated campaign planning and measurement across communications, marketing, advocacy, education, membership, and events initiatives. 
  • Advise stakeholders on audience behavior, platform changes, content effectiveness, and digital channel performance. 
  • Identify opportunities to repurpose and amplify content across channels in support of thought leadership, organizational visibility, and strategic priorities. 

Podcast Strategy, Operations, and Distribution 

 

  • Lead CAP podcast strategy in alignment with organizational goals, audience needs, member engagement objectives, and communications priorities. 
  • Manage podcast publishing workflows, hosting platforms, RSS feeds, distribution platforms, metadata, and related digital operations. 
  • Coordinate with staff, members, volunteer leaders, external production partners, and vendors on podcast planning, scripting support, production, promotion, and publication. 
  • Evaluate podcast performance and audience growth opportunities; provide recommendations related to cadence, promotion, discoverability, and cross-channel content use. 

Digital Analytics, Reporting, and Optimization 

 

  • Serve as a primary owner of digital communications analytics, reporting, and performance optimization. 
  • Monitor website, campaign, social media, YouTube, video, podcast, and digital content performance using available analytics tools and dashboards. 
  • Translate performance data into clear insights, recommendations, reports, and presentations for leadership, staff stakeholders, and member leaders. 
  • Define and refine measurement approaches, KPIs, and reporting practices in partnership with internal teams and agency partners. 
  • Identify opportunities to improve content effectiveness, audience engagement, discoverability, operational efficiency, and alignment with organizational goals. 
  • Use analytics to help prioritize limited resources toward work that advances CAP's mission, member/customer needs, business objectives, and strategic KPIs. 

Digital Innovation, AI, and Future Trends 

 

  • Monitor emerging trends in digital communications, search, AI-enabled tools, analytics, marketing technology, audience behavior, and content distribution. 
  • Evaluate innovation opportunities and responsible uses of AI tools to improve communications effectiveness, content optimization, workflow efficiency, audience insights, and stakeholder service. 
  • Provide practical guidance, education, resources, and presentations to help staff and members understand evolving digital communications practices and AI-enabled opportunities. 
  • Partner with Communications, Marketing, Information Services, and other stakeholders to assess emerging tools and recommend appropriate applications, guardrails, or pilots. 
  • Help CAP anticipate changes in how audiences discover, consume, and engage with information across digital channels. 
  • - Monitor evolving digital discovery trends, including traditional search, AI-powered search experiences, answer engines, large language models, and content discovery platforms, and recommend strategies to ensure CAP content remains visible, relevant, and accessible.

Stakeholder Consultation, Governance, and Collaboration 

 

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to departments, project teams, staff leaders, volunteer leaders, and member committees on digital communications strategy and best practices. 
  • Facilitate alignment among Communications, Marketing, Membership, Advocacy, Education, Publications, Information Services, and external partners. 
  • Lead through influence by establishing standards, providing recommendations, guiding stakeholder decisions, and supporting cross-functional accountability. 
  • Support organizational governance initiatives that improve digital communications consistency, performance, and effectiveness. 
  • - Provide guidance and education to staff, content contributors, and member leaders regarding digital communications standards, governance practices, emerging technologies, AI-enabled communications tools, and evolving digital audience expectations.
Knowledge/Skills Required/Preferred

Technical Skills 

  • Experience managing enterprise websites and digital experiences using WordPress, WP Engine, Elementor, Rank Math, and related content management, optimization, and search technologies.
  • Experience with Google Analytics 4, YouTube Studio, social media analytics, podcast analytics, dashboards, or comparable reporting tools. 
  • Experience with social media management platforms such as Sprout Social or comparable tools. 
  • Experience with podcast hosting and distribution platforms such as Buzzsprout or comparable systems. 
  • Familiarity with digital asset management systems, enterprise web platforms, AI-enabled communications technologies, content optimization tools, and emerging digital marketing technologies preferred.
Education/Experience

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Digital Media, Public Relations, English, or related field preferred. 
  • Seven or more years of progressively responsible experience in digital communications, content strategy, digital marketing, web governance, or related fields preferred. 
  • Demonstrated experience managing digital content programs, governance practices, analytics reporting, and cross-functional stakeholder consultation. 
  • Experience developing training, best-practice guidance, or stakeholder education related to digital platforms, AI, analytics, or content strategy preferred. 
Additional Criteria
  • May require occasional availability outside normal business hours to support critical website, platform, deployment, operational, security, or incident-response activities.
  • Less than 10% travel.
  • Candidates must reside within 75-miles of the Northfield, IL office and meet in office requirements.
