How much do digital equity jobs pay per hour?
What are the most common challenges faced in a digital equity position?
One of the biggest challenges in a Digital Equity role is identifying and addressing the diverse barriers that prevent various communities from accessing digital resources, such as reliable internet, devices, or digital literacy training. Professionals often need to coordinate with local government, service providers, nonprofits, and community members to design effective programs and advocate for funding. Balancing the immediate needs of underserved groups with long-term strategic planning is another key aspect of the job. Success in this role comes from creativity, perseverance, and the ability to build strong cross-sector partnerships that make a measurable impact.
What is a digital equity?
A Digital Equity job focuses on ensuring that all individuals and communities have access to the technology, internet, and digital skills needed to participate fully in society. Professionals in this field work on policies, programs, and initiatives that address barriers such as affordability, digital literacy, and infrastructure gaps. They may collaborate with governments, nonprofits, and private sector partners to promote inclusive access to digital resources. These roles can include positions in advocacy, program management, research, and community engagement. The goal is to bridge the digital divide and create opportunities for underserved populations.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a digital equity position, and why are they important?
To thrive in a Digital Equity role, you need a solid understanding of digital access issues, community engagement, program development, and public policy, typically supported by experience in technology access initiatives or related fields. Familiarity with digital inclusion tools, data analysis software, and knowledge of broadband infrastructure programs, as well as certifications like Digital Equity Professional, are often valuable. Strong interpersonal skills, cultural competency, and advocacy abilities help professionals collaborate with diverse communities and stakeholders. These qualifications ensure the ability to promote fair access to technology, reduce digital divides, and support underserved populations effectively.

Job description
About the American Connection Corps:
The American Connection Corps (ACC), an AmeriCorps program of Lead For America (LFA), is a service fellowship program aimed at helping communities build the digital connectivity necessary to expand opportunity and economic mobility, ranging from healthcare access to quality employment.
ACC Members spend a year serving with locally-rooted organizations, helping address the digital divide and strengthen access to opportunity. Through their service, they gain hands-on experience, build in-demand skills, and explore career pathways while making a tangible impact in their communities.
About PRIDE Community Services, Inc.
PRIDE Community Services make a positive impact on the lives of those in need by bringing together educational, financial, and human resources that support self-sufficiency.
PRIDE Community Services is one of sixteen designated community action agencies in West Virginia. Our tripartite board structure is designed to promote the participation of the entire community in the reduction or elimination of poverty. We seek to involve the community, including elected public officials, private sector representatives, and especially low-income residents, in assessing local needs and attacking the causes and conditions of poverty.
Position Overview
The Digital Equity Specialist will assist staff with efforts to increase senior citizens' access to technology resources and digital learning opportunities, including supporting the development, coordination, and delivery of digital literacy and technology skills classes that build confidence and strengthen participants' ability to use digital devices and online resources. Through these efforts, the Digital Equity Specialist will assist in reducing barriers to technology use and promote greater digital inclusion, independence, and access to essential online services for senior citizens.
Key Responsibilities
- Support senior citizens by sharing information about technology programs, digital literacy opportunities, and available community resources.
- Assist senior citizens with digital literacy and technology skills classes designed to increase confidence and independence in using digital devices and online resources.
- Help staff set up and support workshops, trainings, and learning activities focused on technology use and digital inclusion for senior citizens.
- Assist with organizing and distributing tablets, technology devices, and educational materials to senior citizens participating in the program.
- Provide support to senior citizens during trainings and activities by helping them navigate devices, applications, and online tools under staff supervision.
- Help connect senior citizens with community resources and services that may improve access to technology, communication, healthcare information, and social engagement.
- Collect participation information and feedback from senior citizens to help staff evaluate and improve program services.
- Assist staff with maintaining organized program materials, participant resources, and technology inventories to support services for senior citizens.
- Share observations and feedback with staff to help strengthen program activities and better address barriers senior citizens face in accessing technology.
- Participate in trainings, team meetings, and regular check-ins with supervising staff to support effective service delivery to senior citizens.
- Support additional activities and projects that promote digital access, learning, and social connection for senior citizens as assigned by staff that are consistent with allowable AmeriCorps service activities and guidelines.
- Prepare activity summaries and participation information for staff review and program evaluation purposes.
All functions and activities performed by the AmeriCorps Member are completed under the guidance, supervision, and direction of program and host site staff.
Learning & Development Opportunities
As an ACC Member, you will receive structured training and support throughout your service year, including:
- A two-week-long virtual orientation with the national cohort to kick off the service year.
- A week-long, in-person national Winter Institute convening with your ACC cohort - travel, lodging, and a per diem stipend are fully covered.
- Twice-monthly virtual training on skills for service, including project management, asset-based community development, grant writing, and serving vulnerable populations, plus self-paced curricula with opportunities to earn badges and credentials.
- A structured community listening tour at the start of service to understand local needs, assets, and opportunities.
- Dedicated 1:1 support from a Lead For America Program Coordinator and twice-monthly peer pod meetings for networking and professional development.
- Access to a national network of ACC Members, alumni, and community partners.
Requirements
- Passion for community service and connecting your neighbors to the digital tools, skills, and opportunities they need to thrive.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Interest in gaining experience in community development or digital inclusion.
Eligibility:

- Hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Be 17 years of age or older by the start of service.
- Have not already served four (4) or more AmeriCorps State/National terms.
