Job Summary
The Equity, Civil Rights, and Title IX (ECRT) oversees, facilitates and supports our efforts to ensure equal opportunity for all persons regardless of race, color, national origin, age, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, religion, height, weight, or veteran status in employment educational programs and activities and admissions. The Disability Equity Office within ECRT provides leadership and guidance regarding disability and accessibility compliance to various University partners, leaders, and individuals.
Reporting to the Assistant Director and Deputy ADA Coordinator (or designee) in the Disability Equity Office, you will provide training, research, and individualized support for instructors who are working to enhance the digital accessibility of their courses. Under the general direction of the DEO, the successful candidates will work with instructors and instructional support staff to teach digital accessibility fundamentals while also helping instructors to map out course accessibility improvements in alignment with compliance expectations. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to develop and apply knowledge where digital accessibility practices are currently emerging, such as equations and complex diagrams.
This position is temporary and part-time with an expectation of working up to 20 hours per week. It is an ideal role for current undergraduate and graduate students seeking experience in digital accessibility and working directly with university instructors and instructional support staff.
Responsibilities*
  • Conduct digital accessibility training and consultations for instructors and instructional support staff.
  • Perform accessibility research and apply knowledge to discipline-specific inquiries (e.g., equations, complex diagrams, historical documents, etc.)
  • Assist with responding to course accessibility questions submitted to the DEO request portal, working with the DEO professional staff to escalate questions as necessary.
  • Develop expertise around digital accessibility as it pertains to course content.
  • Assist in developing educational materials on accessibility compliance and inclusive design.

Required Qualifications*
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 0-1 year work experience
  • Basic familiarity with digital accessibility as a concept, as well as the core principles and some of the best practices.
  • Ability to operate in the university environment effectively in a manner consistent with the university?s mission and culture.
  • Experience communicating complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences with varying degrees of knowledge.
  • Reliable, adaptable, and able to work well with others.
  • Proven communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize time-sensitive projects and work towards various goals simultaneously.

Skills You Have
  • Familiarity with accessibility from a design or document design perspective.
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Basic knowledge of web design or development principles.

Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes . We work in a flexible hybrid office with an expectation of in-person work as needed to fulfill the essential functions of the position. Our core hours are 8am-5pm Monday-Friday, and successful candidates must be able to work the majority of their hours during this time.
