PRN ROTATE

The Dietetic Tech performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties related to patient's nutritional care such as: entering dietary data into the computer, maintaining accurate patient profiles, and obtaining patient food preferences. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION: High School Graduate or equivalent
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Associates Degree in Dietetic Technician or at least 2 years of college education in Nutrition and Dietetics
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 1 to 2 years in a Healthcare Food Service setting
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 3 to 5 years in Healthcare Food Service setting and computer experience
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: ANSI Accredited Texas Food Handler or ANSI Accredited Food Manager course or Certified Food Manager from the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association as a Dietetic Technician, Registered.

General Functions:
Examines diet orders and menus received from hospital units and prepare production sheets of specific foods to be prepared for the kitchen staff.
Calls patients to assist/receive menu selection.
Processes new diet orders and changes to the patient diet order as required. Generates and edits patient tray tickets and if necessary enters data into the computer.
Modifies diets following standards established by the Registered Dietitian.
Interviews patients and/or caregivers to obtain food preferences if necessary.
Answers telephones calls and relays information concerning meal changes, complaints, or patient discharges to the Supervisor or Registered Dietitians.
Works tray line/tray accuracy as required for timely and accurate patient services as needed.
Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
Maintains safe work environment
Addresses patient population-specific needs
Participates in Performance Improvement activities
