Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Lead Diesel Technician to join our dynamic fleet maintenance team. This full-time position is critical to ensuring the operational excellence of our waste collection fleet and supporting our commitment to providing uninterrupted service to our community. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of diesel engine systems, demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, and have proven experience in maintaining and repairing heavy-duty vehicles used in waste collection operations.


As the Lead Diesel Technician, you will serve as the technical expert and mentor for our maintenance team, overseeing complex repairs, implementing preventive maintenance programs, and ensuring all fleet vehicles meet safety and environmental compliance standards. This role requires someone who can balance hands-on technical work with supervisory responsibilities while maintaining the highest standards of quality and efficiency.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Supervision

  • Lead and mentor a team of diesel technicians, providing technical guidance, training, and performance feedback to ensure skill development and operational excellence
  • Assign and prioritize daily work orders, ensuring efficient workflow and timely completion of repairs and maintenance tasks
  • Conduct quality inspections of completed work to ensure all repairs meet manufacturer specifications and company standards
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for diagnosing and resolving complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues
  • Collaborate with the Fleet Manager to develop and implement maintenance strategies that maximize vehicle uptime and minimize operational costs

Diesel Engine Repair & Maintenance

  • Perform comprehensive diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on diesel engines, including fuel systems, cooling systems, exhaust systems, and emission control devices
  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic engine control systems using diagnostic software and specialized equipment
  • Rebuild or replace major engine components including cylinder heads, pistons, crankshafts, and turbochargers
