Job Summary:

The Department of Ambulatory Dialysis at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Dialysis Technician / Vascular Assistant. The successful candidate will:

  • Prepare dialysis according to established procedures and the dialysis prescription.
  • Set-up and breakdown of dialysis machine before and after treatment.
  • Prepare, clean and maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.ย 
  • Test and monitor dialysis machine functions, including alarms, conductivity, PH, and temperature. Set monitors and alarms according to unit and manufacturer protocols.
  • Obtain and document pre- and post- dialysis vital signs, weight and temperature.ย 
  • Inspect the patients dialysis access and initiate and terminate dialysis according to unit protocols and patient prescription.
  • Document treatment parameters and communicate patient condition and issues to RN.ย 
  • Measure and adjust blood flow rates according to established protocols and patients prescription.
  • Calculate and adjust fluid removal rates according to established protocols.ย 

Required Qualifications:

  • Certification in Vascular Technology (CCHT, CHT, Bonnent).
  • 1+ year of work experience in the operation of hemodialysis equipment and caring for chronic renal disease patients.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and considerable knowledge of the principles, practice, techniques and procedures applicable to dialysis treatment.ย 

Work Schedule:

Variable Days; 2:00pm to 12:00am (Full-Time Evenings)

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
