How much do dfma jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 26, 2026, the average hourly pay for dfma in the United States is $26.34, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.14 and $30.77 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced by DFMA engineers when collaborating with cross-functional teams?

DFMA (Design for Manufacturability and Assembly) engineers often work closely with design, production, and quality teams to optimize product designs for efficient manufacturing and assembly. A common challenge is balancing innovative design ideas with practical manufacturing constraints, which requires effective communication and compromise. DFMA engineers may also encounter resistance to design changes from other departments or need to address cost concerns while maintaining product quality. Strong collaboration skills and a solutions-oriented mindset are key to overcoming these challenges and ensuring project success.

What is the highest paying job in manufacturing?

In manufacturing, roles such as manufacturing engineering managers and plant managers tend to be among the highest paying, often earning six-figure salaries. These positions require strong leadership, technical expertise, and experience in production processes and operations management.

What does DFMA do?

DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) professionals focus on designing products that are easier and more cost-effective to manufacture and assemble. They analyze product designs to reduce parts, simplify processes, and improve quality, often using tools like CAD software and cost analysis techniques.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a DFMA (Design for Manufacturability and Assembly) Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a DFMA Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical engineering or a related field, along with expertise in manufacturing processes and product design principles. Proficiency in CAD software, DFMA analysis tools like Boothroyd Dewhurst, and knowledge of industry standards are commonly required. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and a collaborative mindset help you work across design and production teams. These skills and qualities ensure products are designed efficiently for cost-effective, high-quality manufacturing and assembly.

What is DFMA?

DFMA stands for Design for Manufacturability and Assembly. It is a set of engineering principles and methodologies aimed at designing products in such a way that they are easier, more cost-effective, and more efficient to manufacture and assemble. By considering manufacturing and assembly issues early in the design process, companies can reduce production costs, improve quality, and speed up time to market. DFMA helps identify potential problems before they occur in production, enabling better collaboration between design and manufacturing teams.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

High-paying jobs that can reach $2,000 a day include specialized consulting roles, executive positions, certain medical specialists, and experienced freelance professionals such as software developers or project managers. These roles often require advanced skills, certifications, or significant experience, and may involve freelance or contract work with flexible schedules.

What is the difference between Dfma vs Manufacturing Engineer?

AspectDfmaManufacturing Engineer
CredentialsTypically requires engineering degree, knowledge of design and manufacturing processesRequires engineering degree, expertise in production, process optimization
Work EnvironmentDesign-focused, collaborative with design and manufacturing teamsProduction floor, process improvement, project management
Industry UsageUsed in product design, development, and manufacturing planningInvolved in manufacturing process setup, troubleshooting, and efficiency

While Dfma (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) focuses on designing products for ease of manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineers implement and optimize manufacturing processes. Both roles require engineering knowledge and collaborate closely, but Dfma emphasizes design considerations, whereas Manufacturing Engineers focus on production execution and process improvements.

What jobs will no longer exist in 2030?

The Dfma (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) field is likely to see traditional manufacturing and assembly roles decline as automation, robotics, and digital design tools become more advanced. Jobs that rely heavily on manual assembly or repetitive tasks may be phased out, replaced by roles focused on overseeing automated systems, programming, and maintenance. Adaptation to new technologies and skills in digital design and robotics will be essential for future employment in this area.

Job description

Join our Team as a Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) Engineer in Value Analysis/Value Engineering!

The Role:

We're seeking a passionate and dedicated VAVE Engineer who brings energy, a positive attitude, drive, and DFMA expertise to the table. In this role, you'll work on improving product profitability and evaluating design improvements, while collaborating with a dynamic and diverse team to achieve shared goals. We value innovative and creative ideas-yes, even during meetings (where snacks are always welcome). If you enjoy tackling challenges with positivity and a bit of humor, you'll feel right at home here.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Identify and propose alternative designs that reduce cost or improve quality and performance.
  • Develop and test redesigned components and systems that optimize cost without compromising functionality.
  • Conduct "should cost" and DFM analysis requests in support of product development, procurement, manufacturing, and other teams.
  • Optimize component designs and manufacturing processes for efficiency and ease of production.
  • Evaluate supplier costs and process capabilities to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Serve as the team's go-to DFMA expert for design evaluations and recommendations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, operations, engineering, and sourcing to align on improvement initiatives.
  • Deliver direct, measurable impact on product cost and overall company profitability.

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering (or related field).
  • 5+ years of hands-on DFMA experience with complex equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electronic systems as well as industrial manufacturing processes.
  • Experience applying DFMA principles to component/system-level designs.
  • Exceptional analytical, planning, and coordination abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially when presenting to cross-functional or non-technical audiences.
  • A knack for identifying and communicating value in both design and process.

What Sets You Apart:

  • Direct DFMA experience with:
    • Complex castings
    • Multi-part weldments
    • Electromechanical systems
  • Track record of leading cost-reduction initiatives and justifying savings.
  • Familiarity with lift trucks or mobile equipment.
  • Advanced experience with:
    • Hydraulic systems
    • Machining and casting techniques
    • Complex assembly DFM reviews
  • JIRA or similar project management software experience.
  • Competitive benchmarking and teardown analysis skills.
  • A Master's degree or advanced certification in engineering or manufacturing disciplines.

Where and When You'll Work:

  • This is an in-person role located at our Greene, New York office-ideal for those who thrive in a hands-on, team-oriented environment.

What Your Total Compensation & Benefits Package will look like:

Salary-$94,000 - $120,500 per year. Compensation depends on the selected candidate's education and experience.

Relocation: This role may be eligible for relocation assistance.

World Class Benefits:

  • Competitive Salary
  • Performance Bonus
  • Generous Paid Time Off and 13 Paid Holidays
  • Affordable Medical plans and no-cost Dental & Vision options
  • 100% 401(k) match up to 6%
  • Company-Paid Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability
  • Tuition Assistance Program
