How much do dfma jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 5, 2026, the average hourly pay for dfma in the United States is $26.34, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.14 and $30.77 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced by DFMA engineers when collaborating with cross-functional teams?

DFMA (Design for Manufacturability and Assembly) engineers often work closely with design, production, and quality teams to optimize product designs for efficient manufacturing and assembly. A common challenge is balancing innovative design ideas with practical manufacturing constraints, which requires effective communication and compromise. DFMA engineers may also encounter resistance to design changes from other departments or need to address cost concerns while maintaining product quality. Strong collaboration skills and a solutions-oriented mindset are key to overcoming these challenges and ensuring project success.

What jobs make $3,000 a month without a degree?

In the context of Dfma (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly), roles such as manufacturing technicians, quality inspectors, or production supervisors can earn around $3,000 monthly without a college degree, especially with experience and technical skills. These jobs often require on-the-job training, certifications, or technical knowledge of manufacturing processes and tools.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a DFMA (Design for Manufacturability and Assembly) Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a DFMA Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical engineering or a related field, along with expertise in manufacturing processes and product design principles. Proficiency in CAD software, DFMA analysis tools like Boothroyd Dewhurst, and knowledge of industry standards are commonly required. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and a collaborative mindset help you work across design and production teams. These skills and qualities ensure products are designed efficiently for cost-effective, high-quality manufacturing and assembly.

What is DFMA?

DFMA stands for Design for Manufacturability and Assembly. It is a set of engineering principles and methodologies aimed at designing products in such a way that they are easier, more cost-effective, and more efficient to manufacture and assemble. By considering manufacturing and assembly issues early in the design process, companies can reduce production costs, improve quality, and speed up time to market. DFMA helps identify potential problems before they occur in production, enabling better collaboration between design and manufacturing teams.

What is the difference between Dfma vs Manufacturing Engineer?

AspectDfmaManufacturing Engineer
CredentialsTypically requires engineering degree, knowledge of design and manufacturing processesRequires engineering degree, expertise in production, process optimization
Work EnvironmentDesign-focused, collaborative with design and manufacturing teamsProduction floor, process improvement, project management
Industry UsageUsed in product design, development, and manufacturing planningInvolved in manufacturing process setup, troubleshooting, and efficiency

While Dfma (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) focuses on designing products for ease of manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineers implement and optimize manufacturing processes. Both roles require engineering knowledge and collaborate closely, but Dfma emphasizes design considerations, whereas Manufacturing Engineers focus on production execution and process improvements.

Job description

Description
Become a key technical leader at RK Mission Critical as our Senior Manufacturing Engineer. In this role you will drive the development, improvement, and sustainment of robust manufacturing processes for our modular power and data center product lines. You'll lead assembly and integration process design, tooling and workstation development, and production sequencing to deliver efficient, high-quality, repeatable manufacturing execution. Partnering closely with Design Engineering, you will mitigate DFM/DFMA risks, align engineering documentation with production needs, and champion continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, quality, and throughput. This role offers the opportunity to shape world-class manufacturing processes and make a measurable impact on mission-critical infrastructure.
RK Company Overview
As a second-generation, family-owned enterprise, RK Industries, LLC (RK) offers a diverse range of construction, manufacturing, advanced fabrication and building services. Led by Rick and Jon Kinning, RK represents seven distinct lines of business that work together to provide seamless project collaboration. Our exclusive building methodologies, accredited safety standards and professional execution allow us to turn our customers' greatest concepts into reality.
Position Summary
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is a senior-level technical contributor responsible for developing, improving, and sustaining robust manufacturing processes that support RK Mission Critical's modular power and data center product lines. This position leads the design and continuous improvement of assembly and integration processes, production tooling, and build sequencing to ensure efficient, high-quality, and repeatable operations. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer partners closely with Design Engineering to identify and mitigate Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFMA) risks, ensuring alignment between engineering documentation and production execution.
Role Responsibilities
  • Partner with Design Engineering to identify and mitigate Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFMA) risks during product development, supporting a smooth transition into production.
  • Design, improve, and document assembly, integration, and testing processes for modular electrical and power infrastructure products.
  • Review and provide detailed feedback on shop drawing structure and content, ensuring alignment with defined workstation layouts, build sequencing, and production requirements.
  • Develop and implement tooling, fixtures, jigs, and material-handling solutions to improve safety, reduce waste, and enhance process repeatability.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of manufacturing BOMs, routings, and workstation sequencing within the ERP system, ensuring accuracy and alignment with defined processes.
  • Lead and support lean manufacturing initiatives, including value stream mapping, standard work development, and flow optimization within assigned product lines or processes.
  • Develop and maintain clear, structured manufacturing process documentation, including work instructions, control plans, and validation records.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Operations, and Supply Chain to improve First Pass Yield (FPY), reduce defects, improve cycle time, and support cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Conduct and support structured root cause analysis (DMAIC, 8D, 5-Why, etc.) and assist in implementing and validating corrective actions.
  • Support pilot builds, engineering builds, and process validation efforts to ensure scalable and repeatable production readiness.
