Summary:
This Project Engineer is responsible for processing and managing customer account projects in the Voith Roll Shop. The Engineer is a problem solver and provides design, technical, and commercial support of projects from inception to completion.
Responsibilities:
Project Manager:
  • Effectively support customers by managing customer projects from initial quotation through project completion.
  • Interact with customers on engineering design and any questions/challenges they may have.
  • Prepare project quotation and documentation.
  • Prepare scope of work for all mechanical services, modifications, and testing.

Facilitator:
  • Perform liaison function between engineering and all mechanical services operations for any related issues, problems, or improvements.
  • Interact with customers directly to specify, price, and communicate progress on repair projects.
  • Interact with vendors concerning parts and services they supply to company.
  • Interact with outside salespeople to fulfill customer needs.
  • Coordinate with internal groups including purchasing, quality control, sales, production, accounting, metal finishing and assembly.

Engineering:
  • Generate and update process documentation, work Instructions, flow charts, etc.
  • Review customer source control drawings, specification control drawings and other applicable specifications to determine requirements and/or feasibility of the component.
  • Interact with mechanical personnel to define and solve manufacturing/design issues and implement cost reduction ideas regarding company products.
  • Participate in engineering and general design review as required.
  • Prepare preliminary design proposals.

Health Safety and Environmental:
  • Demonstrate safe behavior, make safety observations, and support safety initiatives.
  • Provide support for safety investigation.

Quality:
  • Assist in root cause investigation and follow up on corrective actions.
  • KPI analysis and tracking of corrective actions.

Operational Excellence:
  • Promote Lean culture throughout the facility.
  • Support Operational Excellence initiatives.
  • Support KPI analysis and tracking of corrective actions.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Bachelor of engineering degree from four-year accredited college or university. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a college degree.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • The Project Engineer receives instruction, guidance, and direction from others with limited supervision.
  • Project management experience is a plus.
  • Proficient with computers applications MS Office suite, ERP, including electronic document control and distribution.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Can communicate effectively with other engineers, customers, shop floor team members etc.
  • Knowledge of paper machine rolls, paper manufacturing equipment, and/or paper mill operations is desired but not required.
  • Capable of teaching and coaching other team members.
  • Exceptional multi-tasking skills and ability to independently manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to troubleshoot as necessary to achieve swift and accurate project results.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, across different levels of the organization.
  • Professional, personable, and diplomatic.

Physical Requirements:
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand for an extended amount of time, walk and reach with hands and arms. Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Environmental Factors - Indoor office/shop; (noise, welding, grinding dust, fumes in shop area).
  • Travel as necessary - potential 10%.
