What is a DevOps project manager?

A DevOps Project Manager is a professional who oversees software development projects that use DevOps practices, which integrate development and operations teams to improve collaboration, automation, and delivery speed. They are responsible for project planning, coordinating cross-functional teams, managing timelines, and ensuring that DevOps tools and methodologies are effectively implemented. Their role bridges the gap between technical and business stakeholders, ensuring projects meet quality standards and business objectives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a DevOps project manager?

To thrive as a DevOps Project Manager, you need a strong background in software development, IT operations, and project management, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab), cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure), and certifications like PMP or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer are highly valuable. Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills distinguish those who can effectively coordinate cross-functional teams and drive process improvements. These skills ensure seamless integration of development and operations, timely delivery of high-quality projects, and alignment with business goals.

How does a DevOps project manager typically collaborate with development and operations teams to ensure smooth project delivery?

A DevOps Project Manager acts as a critical bridge between development and operations teams, facilitating communication and ensuring alignment on project objectives and timelines. Job description

DevOps Engineer

Job type: Full Time ยท Department: Software ยท Work type: On-Site ยท USD 85,000-100,000 / year

St. Louis, Missouri, United States

About Us:

At Intramotev, we are dedicated to revolutionizing the freight industry by liberating tons of freight from congested highways, reducing carbon emissions, and enhancing transportation efficiency. We are deploying selfโ€‘propelled batteryโ€‘electric railcars and vehicles to transform freight logistics and bring innovation to our rail network. Based in St. Louis, MO, we are committed to promoting industrial revitalization, saving lives, and minimizing the environmental impact of trucking/transportation. We actively foster a welcoming, respectful and inclusive work environment with great opportunities for professional growth. Find your future with us.

Role Overview:

Intramotev is seeking a motivated DevOps Engineer to join the software engineering team to support the development of autonomous, selfโ€‘propelled rail vehicles. This role takes ownership of our existing CI/CD pipeline and supporting infrastructure โ€” currently maintained partโ€‘time by other engineers โ€” and grows it into a dedicated, fullโ€‘time function. You will maintain, improve, and standardize the tools and systems that support dayโ€‘toโ€‘day software development and deployment. This is a fullโ€‘time, 100% inโ€‘office position based in St. Louis, MO.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Pipeline Ownership: Take over and maintain the existing GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines, improving reliability, build times, and developer experience.
  • Infrastructure Maintenance: Manage internal server and cloud infrastructure to ensure availability and performance for the engineering team.
  • Tooling Integration: Standardize and integrate internally built engineering tools to streamline development workflows.
  • Test Automation: Maintain and extend automated testing frameworks within the pipeline, working with software engineers to expand coverage.
  • Lifecycle Support: Help diagnose and resolve infrastructure and deployment issues for fielded systems.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Transfer: Document existing systems, capture institutional knowledge from the engineers who built them, and establish sustainable operational practices.
Why Join Us?
  • Career Growth: Take a system that's been someone's side project and grow it into your own area of ownership in a forwardโ€‘thinking company transforming rail technology.
  • Innovative Environment: Contribute to groundbreaking projects that bridge the past and future of rail transport.
  • Impactful Work: Be a key player in creating solutions that promote a more sustainable and efficient rail network.
About You: Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 2โ€“4 years of experience in DevOps, Software Engineering, Build/Release Engineering, or Systems Administration.
  • Handsโ€‘on experience with GitHub Actions or comparable CI/CD platforms (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins, CircleCI).
  • Working knowledge of at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Comfort working with Linux servers and shell scripting.
  • Willingness to expand into technical areas beyond your area of expertise; eager to learn.
  • Openโ€‘minded and comfortable working in a teaming environment as an individual contributor.
  • Fluent in both written and verbal English.
  • Currently reside in the St. Louis metro area or willing to relocate at your own expense. Relocation assistance is not provided for this role.
  • Must be a U.S. Person. Immigration or work visa sponsorship will not be provided.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Industry Experience: Exposure to Rail, Electric Vehicles, Unmanned Systems, or other hardware/embedded domains; experience supporting embedded software builds or hardwareโ€‘inโ€‘theโ€‘loop testing.
  • Technical Skills: Containerization with Docker, scripting in Python or Bash for automation, familiarity with Infrastructureโ€‘asโ€‘Code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible), exposure to monitoring and observability tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Process Experience: Working on crossโ€‘functional teams alongside other engineering disciplines; working in Agile/Scrum software development environments.
Typical Education and Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g., Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience.

Compensation & Benefits:
  • Base salary range: $85,000 โ€“ $100,000, commensurate with experience.
  • Equity participation.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits.
  • 401(k) plan.
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
Equal Opportunity Employer:

If you're interested in growing into a DevOps ownership role in autonomous rail technology, we'd love to hear from you!
