Job description

Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Will learn to safely handle all products for daily operations and adhere to company safety protocols.

  • Work collaboratively as a team member and observe, assist and perform various functions in blasting operations under assigned leadership.

  • Work with team members on the bench learning shot loading, layout and design (E-Star).

  • Assist the site supervisor or Blaster in Charge with the materials, equipment needs and help collect supplies as requested.

  • Use material handling equipment and tools including shovels, hand tools, power tools and work around heavy construction equipment.

  • Maintain a clean, safe working environment and report any employee, customer or safety concerns to the Blaster in Charge or Location Manager.

  • Assist in field work which includes physical labor, sampling, surveying and site inspections.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • Enrollment or degree in Mining Engineering program

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Ability to work non-traditional first shift hours generally starting very early.

  • Perform basic math functions (add, subtract, multiply and divide) to count inventory, verify inventory.

  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.

  • Lifting and carrying 50+ pounds of product and other materials and frequently squatting and bending.

  • Strong team-orientation

  • The desire to learn local, operations, technical and sales aspects of the blasting industry.

  • Effective oral and written communication

Reporting Relationships
  • Field Interns will report to a variety of Austin Powder Leadership, depending on where they are at in their rotation.

  • Field Interns will be assigned a Mentor for the duration of their assignment as a trusted advisor and a "Go To" for everything in between.

Work Environment
  • The rotations of the Field Intern will include being outside in all weather conditions and varying terrain.

  • Will be exposed to dust, noise, oils, greases, and other debris.

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, use hands to operate controls, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Location
  • Field Interns will be assigned to an APC location where housing may be required (housing allowance provided)

  • Daily travel within the region with an APC employee or assigned company vehicle.
