THE DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY AT LOYOLA UNIVERSITY MARYLAND invitesapplications for a tenure-track assistant professor to begin July 2027. While specialty area is open, we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in clinical and/or counseling psychology. Area of subject matter expertise is also open. We especially encourage applications from candidates whose expertise prepares them to teach needed courses in the department. Such expertise includes psychological assessment (personality assessment, cognitive assessment, assessment and appraisal), developmental or clinical-developmental psychology (child, adolescent, lifespan, gero psychology), research (research methods, statistics, measurement), biopsychology, neuropsychology, and/or health psychology. Candidates can explore the courses offered in our degree programs at this link.
The individual selected for this position will be able to contribute to the robust teacher-scholar identity of the department and be able to teach courses in their specialty area. Tenure-track faculty teach 6 courses per academic year (5 in their first year) and engage actively in research related to their chosen fields of study and scholarly expertise. Tenure-track faculty receive a tenure-track research sabbatical (typically in their 4th year) and can apply for funds to support teaching innovations and research-related expenses. Additional funding is available for professional travel, and may include research start-up costs. In addition to teaching (50%) and research (30%) expectations, tenure-track faculty mentor undergraduate and graduate students and participate meaningfully in the life of the department and university through service (20%). Department service supports all programs, and includes supervising PsyD dissertations and the opportunity to supervise undergraduate research (with opportunities for accrued compensation). We encourage applicants from candidates with strong leadership potential and interest in serving significant post-tenure departmental and university leadership roles.
The Department of Psychology is among the largest departments at the university and provides training in psychology to over 700 undergraduate and graduate students, offering B.A., M.S. (clinical professional counseling) and Psy.D. degrees (clinical psychology; APA accredited; nationally ranked). The department has a strikingly collegial professional climate. The department is committed to providing a best-in-class training experience to all students, with particular emphasis on the scientist-practitioner model and the development of students' critical thinking, information literacy, ethical reasoning, evidence-based practice, multicultural competence and a general appreciation for all forms of human diversity.
The Psychology Department seeks a broad spectrum of candidates, including women, people of color, and people with different religious, sexual orientation and ability backgrounds, who appreciate, respect, and can actively contribute to the university's Jesuit mission and the values of the department. For more information about the department's commitment to diversity, we welcome you to read our department's Diversity Statement. Loyola's commitment to diversity and inclusion spans the entire campus.
