About the Company



Advanced Environmental Laboratories, Inc. (AEL) is Florida's largest environmental, chemical, analytical testing laboratory network. AEL has been in business for over 30 years and is a leader in the industry with modern instrumentation, computer technology, and opportunities of growth for our employees. We provide reliable data across various sectors, including public drinking water, wastewater, landfills, environmental site assessments, land development, emergency response, and Department of Defense (DOD) site evaluations.



About the Role



We are currently looking for a Laboratory Manager for our AEL Fort Myers, FL laboratory. This hire will join our management team to support laboratory operations and service of clients in the Fort Myers and surrounding areas.



Responsibilities



  • Oversee the daily laboratory operation and staff mentoring and management
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with the TNI (NELAC) standards and quality of the lab
  • Adhere to budget keeping expenses including meeting/exceeding sales goals, profit/loss and long-range planning
  • Assists with recruiting process including but not limited to candidate selection, interviewing, hiring procedures and retention
  • Supports corporate HR with onboarding and offboarding documentation
  • Reviews and approves employee schedules and flex work arrangements
  • Track and submit timesheets and payroll for all staff at the lab location
  • Manages MDLs and DOCs and assure complete throughout lab as required
  • Understand instrument operation and theory of all instrumentation in lab
  • Perform occasional repairs and maintenance of instruments and laboratory
  • Assist with scheduling training of new analysts
  • Interface with sales and project managers to schedule projects
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with staff
  • Place purchase orders for approval with the operations manager
  • Login corrections when required in Horizon LIMS
  • Assist with duties to manage Health and Safety and Hazardous Waste program
  • Assists with sample handling activities including receiving and LIMS login
  • Confirms any data anomalies with the laboratory before submitting to clients
  • Tracks status of client projects
  • Assure client deadlines and contract requirements are met
  • Prepare reports and invoices for client projects
  • Communicates upline to inform and assist with Corporate guidance and policy


Qualifications



  • Bachelor Degree in relevant science field (Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Biology, etc.) or higher education
  • Previous laboratory experience (environmental preferred)


Required Skills



  • Basic knowledge of principles, terminology, practices, techniques and instrumentation commonly used in a laboratory setting
  • Ability to effectively prioritize work and manage time to meet deadlines and rush orders
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office software and LIMS
  • Records observations, calculations and results, accurately
  • Ability to work with delicate laboratory equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal format
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills
  • Ethical, fair, transparent, dependable
  • Ability to supervise and mentor in a multi-cultural environment

Pay range and compensation package



This is a full-time position with benefits including Health/Dental/Vision Insurance, Floating Holiday, PTO, short and long term disability + life term insurance paid by AEL, and 401K retirement plan with up to 4% Company match. Salary based on experience.

Schedule



Full-time position. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00 pm; Operations Hours 7 am to 7 pm, 7 days a week. Work can occasionally include weekends, evenings and holidays in peak production times. Complete work schedule will be discussed with applicant during interview.
