Position Summary

In a technological environment that evolves at high pace, the Lab Robotics Manager will act as key enabler for the automation of the Scientific Area, Vx CL&AP, and DDS laboratories. Successful delivery of high-throughput lab equipment and high-tech instruments will be key to answer the increased needs of clinical test read-outs as well as to accelerate the delivery of the R&D projects pipeline. The incumbent will contribute to the design of systems that aim at being used at the maximum of their capacity and that unlock the full scientific potential of the generated data. This person will perform proper prioritization, disciplined project execution and continuously assess and adapt where/when needed the ways-of-working to ensure that the team can provide best-in-class technical solutions. The incumbent will also work in partnership with a broad range of stakeholder groups such as Quality, Computer System Validation, Tech, Procurement and the R&D scientific platforms to proactively define technology standards, identify cost saving opportunities and accelerate generation of scientific results. This person will be accountable the design, deployment and sustainable lifecycle management of a broad range of lab robotics systems, must be able to work independently and assess complex situations and must be able to manage the automation and robotics areas, including management of related personnel because this role requires the highest standards in terms of quality and data integrity and must be able to interact with a large panel of stakeholders and to effectively communicate inside as well as outside the project teams.

Responsibilities

Automated laboratory systems management Act as a key contributor for the R&D lab technology strategy by staying current and actively exploring the external environment for new opportunities. Perform proper prioritization, disciplined project execution and continuously assess and adapt where/when needed the ways-of-working to ensure provision of best-in-class technical solutions and to maintain appropriate service levels throughout the lifecycle of the implemented lab robotics systems. Technical expert in Automation and Robotics technologies such as Image Analysis (e.g. bacteria colony counting or inclusion bacterial counting), Liquid Handling (e.g. Hamilton, Tecan, Eppendorf equipment) and Automated Tube Labelling Systems Ensure EHS requirements are always met with zero compromises. Project Management Lead end-to-end laboratory automation and robotics project delivery (preparation, execution, risk mgmt., budget monitoring, stakeholder mgmt., etc.). Design systems with maximal value for R&D scientists (including knowledge mgmt.) that are straight-forward to implement in the internal OT network and easy to deploy or replicate elsewhere. Support during lifecycle Set the standards for the quality of the technical solutions so that they operate with minimal down-time over their overall lifetime. Also ensure that the most appropriate support model is defined per technology type. Ensure quality and robustness of technical solutions to maximize systems uptime and minimize disruption of business activities. Stakeholders and team Management The incumbent will also work in partnership with a broad range of stakeholder groups such as Quality, Computer System Validation, Engineering, Tech, EHS, Procurement and the R&D scientific platforms to proactively define technology standards, identify cost saving opportunities and accelerate generation of scientific results. Manage, coordinate, supervise external partners throughput the entire system’s lifecycle. Maximizing investment value for GSK while negotiating with external partners.

Basic Qualification

We are seeking professionals with the following required skills and qualifications to help us achieve our goals: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Automation Laboratory technology and/or automation experience for large companies, preferably in a pharmaceutical or regulated environment Experience in support and managing of automation projects 4+ years of experience in a pharmaceutical or regulated R&D environment, with a focus on delivering automation fit-for-purpose solutions or services to laboratories and experience in technology projects delivery (hardware and/or applications) Experience in performance, risk and quality management 2+ years of experience in people management

Preferred Qualification

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Automation Strong understanding of automation and robotics technologies as well as strong understanding of computer programming and software development Strong analytical mindset to quickly assimilate facts and data and develop an understanding of complex matters in order to synthesize a story into a cost-effective solution or an actionable set of recommendations Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills allowing to interact at all levels of the organization, including senior management and to influence and lead without hierarchical authority Ability to coach and inspire (more junior) team members Mental agility to work effectively in a rapidly changing environment

If you are based in Cambridge, MA; Waltham, MA; Rockville, MD; or San Francisco, CA, the annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges $119,625 to $199,375. The US salary ranges take into account a number of factors including work location within the US market, the candidate’s skills, experience, education level and the market rate for the role. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role. Available benefits include health care and other insurance benefits (for employee and family), retirement benefits, paid holidays, vacation, and paid caregiver/parental and medical leave.
