Director of Business Development (West Coast)

The Director of Business Development will lead our sales strategy, focusing on expanding our market presence in the west coast passenger rail industry. This role is not just about selling products but involves understanding the unique needs of our clients, public procurement processes, building long-term partnerships, and contributing to the evolution of
public transportation systems. In this role, you will lead policy and government relations efforts at the state-level, develop close relationships and maintain constant oversight of passenger rail funding and legislation in key states-such as California.
This role requires experience in the rail/rolling stock industry.
Key Activities
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy to achieve revenue targets and West Coast market growth
  • Participate in internal and external customer meetings and assigning and following up on action items.
  • Conduct market research to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive dynamics within the passenger rail industry
  • Maintain a pipeline of projects in the Sales Database with accurate data in accordance with the Global Sales Process.
  • Nurture sales leads in your respective territory, focused on long-term relationship development and management.
  • Plan and advocate for Stadler's policy priorities in key states such as California.
  • Collaborate across multiple departments and teams to ensure customer requirements are met throughout the design, manufacturing, and delivery processes. Support project management in delivering on time and within budget.
  • Manage and mentor other sales professionals, as applicable, fostering a high-performance culture. Provide guidance and support to ensure direct reports meet their objectives and develops professionally.
  • Represent Stadler at industry events, trade shows, and conferences.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree is required, Master's Degree is preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in business development in a leadership level
  • Experience in rail/rolling stock is required
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Proven track record of establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders
  • Extensive knowledge of the local market (west coast) from both a business and technical standpoint
  • Fluent in English, German is a plus
  • Strong computer proficiency, including Office Suite
  • Ability to travel (30%)
  • Ability to relocate to Salt Lake City, UT
