Job description

DEFINITION:
Under supervision of the Program Director and/or Site Supervisor State Preschool Program, will provide a warm, nurturing, safe and loving environment where self-concepts are enhanced, independence encouraged and individuality respected.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
To interact, initiate and encourage the children in activities during the day; help the children control behavior using a positive and appropriate approach and using a consistent technique; to help children become independent; to help children learn good social skills; to maintain good communication with parents; to assist the teacher in planning activities for the group; to develop a cooperative and supportive attitude within the classroom; to assist the teacher with observations and documentation to help with required assessments; to ensure that all children are totally visible by staff at all times. In the absence of a teacher with a more advanced permit, take on the duties of a teacher.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Ability to:
  • Relate joyfully and sensitively to preschool children.
  • Be sensitive to children's individual needs.
  • To use appropriate and positive discipline.

Education, Training, and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Must submit documentation at time of hire;
  • Valid California Child Development Associate Teacher's Permit (or higher)

Basic Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License;
  • TB and Livescan clearance prior to employment;
  • Physical/Mental Health Screening by a licensed physician.
  • CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
  • First Aid certification or multi-media Red Cross
