About Mission Bit

Mission Bit is a San Francisco-based nonprofit that inspires youth of color to explore the world of STEM through project-based computer science education that embraces their identities. We offer a variety of hands-on STEM education programs, including in-school and after-school coding courses, with a focus on equity, access, and community.

The role

Mission Bit is looking for a Development Assistant to support our fundraising and donor engagement efforts. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys thoughtful communication, relationship-building, and the behind-the-scenes work that makes donor relationships possible - keeping records organized, tracking gifts, drafting outreach, and supporting grant processes. If you are detail-oriented, comfortable with outreach, and excited to help grow Mission Bit's community of supporters, we'd love to hear from you!

This role works closely with the CEO and Sr. Development Specialist to support day-to-day development priorities and reports directly to the CEO. The Development Assistant plays a key role in helping bring in new donors, stewarding existing supporters, and ensuring donor data and follow-up are handled with care.

This is a hybrid, part-time hourly role based in San Francisco, CA. In-person work and events are required on a case-by-case basis and based on organizational needs.

Schedule

  • 20 hours per week
  • Typically, Monday through Thursday, within the business hours of 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM, with occasional evenings, Fridays, and scheduled events required
    • The schedule will be set collaboratively with the manager, with some flexibility. Hours may vary based on organizational needs

What you'll be doing

60% Donor outreach and cultivation

  • Conduct cold and warm outreach to prospective donors, primarily via email
  • Support efforts to bring in new individual and institutional donors through consistent follow-up
  • Draft and send donor-facing communications, including newsletters, using templates and guidance
  • Make phone calls to existing donors for stewardship and follow-up

20% Donor stewardship and communications

  • Draft and send donor thank-you letters and other stewardship communications
  • Support timely, thoughtful donor follow-up with strong attention to tone, accuracy, and detail
  • Assist with outreach related to matching gifts and donor engagement campaigns

20% Data tracking and development operations

  • Log donor interactions, outreach activity, and notes in Salesforce
  • Review and track corporate giving and matching gifts (e.g., Benevity)
  • Maintain organized, accurate development records and documentation

Requirements
