Assistant Varsity Football Coach
2026-2027 School Year
SUMMARY OF POSITION : The Assistant Varsity Football Coach is responsible for providing leadership, instruction, supervision, and coaching to student-athletes participating in the Carrollton Public Schools football program. The coach will work collaboratively with other members of the coaching staff and the Athletic Director to support the overall goals, philosophy, and development of the football program.
The coach is responsible for creating a safe, positive, and supportive athletic environment that promotes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, leadership, confidence, character development, and academic success. The coach will serve as a positive role model and promote the development of student-athletes both athletically and personally.
REPORTS TO: Jacob Premo- Athletic Director of Carrollton Public School
COMPENSATION: The Assistant Varsity Football Coach will be paid in accordance with the CEA contract "Appendix B"
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Teach and develop fundamental football skills, techniques, terminology, rules, and game strategies appropriate to the student-athletes' level of participation.
- Plan and conduct organized and effective practices that promote athletic development, teamwork, conditioning, skill development, and player safety.
- Observe and evaluate student-athletes' abilities, strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
- Provide constructive instruction, feedback, and individualized coaching to correct mistakes and improve athletic performance.
- Assist in developing and implementing offensive, defensive, and special teams strategies as appropriate to the coaching assignment.
- Assist with preparing student-athletes for practices, games, competitions, and other football-related activities.
- Promote appropriate conditioning, warm-up, stretching, and injury-prevention practices.
- Support the development of student-athletes' skills and encourage continued athletic growth and improvement.
- Work collaboratively with other football coaches to develop a consistent and comprehensive football program.
- Promote positive values, character, personal responsibility, discipline, and ethical behavior among student-athletes.
- Develop and maintain a positive team culture that promotes teamwork, respect, commitment, accountability, and school pride.
- Promote good sportsmanship and appropriate behavior on and off the field.
- Encourage student-athletes to develop leadership qualities, self-confidence, perseverance, and responsibility.
- Encourage student-athletes to maintain appropriate academic standards and support their educational success.
- Serve as a positive role model and maintain appropriate professional boundaries with student-athletes.
- Reinforce team expectations and District standards of conduct.
- Provide appropriate supervision of student-athletes during practices, games, travel, meetings, and other team-related activities.
- Maintain a safe and supportive environment for all student-athletes.
- Follow established safety procedures and immediately report injuries, accidents, or other safety concerns in accordance with District procedures.
- Assist in ensuring that football equipment and facilities are properly used, maintained, and secured.
- Report damaged, missing, or unsafe equipment or facilities to the appropriate administrator.
- Follow District procedures regarding student supervision, transportation, travel, and athletic activities.
- Maintain effective and professional communication with student-athletes, parents/guardians, coaches, Athletic Director, school administrators, and other District personnel.
- Communicate appropriately with parents/guardians regarding team expectations, schedules, activities, and student-athlete concerns.
- Communicate significant student, safety, disciplinary, or program concerns to the Athletic Director and/or appropriate administrator.
- Work cooperatively with the coaching staff to promote consistency and continuity within the football program.
- Attend required coaches' meetings, athletic department meetings, professional development, practices, games, and other assigned activities.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student-athlete information.
Complete required coaching documentation, certifications, training, and other athletic department requirements within established deadlines.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent leadership qualities
- Passion for developing youth both athletically and personally
- Experience supervising others is desired
- Coaching experience is desired
- Prior competitive cheer experience preferred
- Must be willing to dedicate afternoons and evenings during the season for practices and events
- Must successfully pass:
- Must receive a satisfactory response to 4205-F Authorization for Release of Information and Employee History Check Under 1996 P.A.189 of 1996; MCL380.1230b.
- Law enforcement background checks with fingerprinting.
- Personal and professional reference background check.
