Role

A Software Developer, Subsurface Information Management is responsible for supporting the design, development, and release of software applications, components and high-performance platform services and APIs that enable advanced analytics, data science, business intelligence, and AI workflows for geoscience data. This position has an expectation of an individual who already possesses relevant industry experience in software development, offering hands-on experience with industry-standard tools, practices, and collaborative development processes. A Software Developer will work under the general direction of the Manager, Software Engineering with the expectation to work independently, following clear guidance and established processes. 

Duties and responsibilities 


Software Design 

  • Create and document detailed designs for software applications or components.
  • Apply agreed modelling techniques, standards, patterns, and tools.
  • Contribute to the design of components of larger software systems, ensuring alignment with overall design requirements, including security.
  • Accountable to validate and review own work.
  • Perform peer review and validation as required. 

Software Development  

  • Design, code, verify, test, document, amend, and refactor programs/scripts.
  • Apply agreed standards, tools, and basic security practices to achieve a well-engineered result.
  • Accountable to validate and review own work.

Release Management 

  • Assist with release management tasks.
  • Support the collection of data and information for release planning and scheduling.
  • Assist in the preparation of release materials and resources. Help document and maintain records of release activities.

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years working in relevant Software Development positions. 

In addition, the position requires the following attributes: 

  • Familiarity with CI/CD Pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Experience with enterprise-scale data solutions
  • Experience with relational and/or no-SQL data storage mechanisms
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python and JSON preferable
  • Experience with cloud platforms (i.e. Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • Familiarity with containerization (i.e. Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Be able to work under general direction, use discretion, seek guidance in unexpected situations, and plan work within short time horizons.
  • Ability to work independently and apply sound judgment to seek guidance for situations that deviate from general practices or processes.
  • Ability to interact with immediate colleagues, customers, suppliers, and partners, and have awareness of the need to collaborate with the team and represent users' and customers' needs.
  • Be able to perform various work activities in different environments, contribute to routine issue resolution, and apply creative thinking or suggest new approaches to tasks.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, understand and use appropriate methods and tools, demonstrate an organized approach to work, have sufficient digital skills, identify development opportunities, and adhere to organizational standards for security, privacy, and ethics.
  • Demonstrate basic domain knowledge, apply essential generic knowledge, and effectively absorb and apply new information when presented systematically. 

Working conditions 

This is a hybrid position, and you are required to be in the Seequent Toronto office two days a week. 
Seequent is a global company, and flexibility in working hours may be required to accommodate work across different time zones. 

Tier 3, after hours support may be required on occasion.
