What is a Developer Startup job?

A Developer Startup job typically involves building and scaling software products for early-stage companies. Developers in startups often work across multiple areas, including frontend, backend, and infrastructure, due to smaller team sizes. They need to adapt quickly, solve complex problems, and collaborate closely with founders and other team members. The role may also involve rapid prototyping, optimizing code for scalability, and integrating new technologies as the business evolves. It's a dynamic position that requires flexibility, creativity, and a strong problem-solving mindset.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Developer Startup position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Developer at a startup, you need strong coding abilities, familiarity with agile development methodologies, and a solid understanding of software engineering principles, often evidenced by a degree in computer science or related field. Experience with modern programming languages, cloud platforms, version control systems like Git, and sometimes full-stack or DevOps tools is highly valued. Resourcefulness, adaptability, and effective communication are vital soft skills in the fast-paced startup environment. These skills and qualities are essential for rapidly building and iterating products, collaborating with small teams, and responding swiftly to changing business needs.

What are some unique challenges developers face when working at a startup compared to larger companies?

Developers at startups often handle a wider range of responsibilities, from designing system architecture to fixing urgent bugs, due to smaller team sizes and limited resources. The work environment tends to be fast-paced and dynamic, with priorities and product goals that can rapidly change in response to user feedback or market needs. This means developers must be adaptable, self-driven, and comfortable with ambiguity, frequently multitasking and picking up new technologies as needed. However, this also creates significant opportunities for professional growth, hands-on experience with various technologies, and a direct impact on the product and company’s success.

Business Developer, Enterprise Retail

Booxi

Montreal, QC

Full-time

Medical, PTO

Posted 20 days ago

Job description

We're looking for someone who sees enterprise prospecting as a craft, not a stepping stone.

Physical retail isn't dying. It's being filtered. The brands that survive will be the ones that make every in-store interaction intentional.

Booxi is the infrastructure behind that shift: appointments, queue management, and in-store events orchestrated in a single platform. Our clients include Tiffany's, Benefit Cosmetics, LVMH, Dior, and Sephora. We operate in 103 countries, with teams in Montreal and Paris.

We're not an early-stage startup and we're not a large corporation. We're at the stage where things actually get built, and where what you build actually matters.

We're looking for a Business Developer focused on enterprise retail to help turn high-intent accounts into qualified opportunities.

Your Mission

Turn enterprise retail accounts showing buying signals into meaningful sales conversations and qualified opportunities.

You'll combine intent-driven prospecting, outbound outreach, and strategic account research to engage senior retail leaders.

What You'll Do

  • Navigate organizations, not just accounts: The TAM is built. Your job is to go inside those accounts and find the right people: map org charts, identify who owns the in-store experience problem, figure out who to approach and when.
  • Execute warm and cold outbound: Lemlist sequences built around real context. Email, LinkedIn, phone. Showing up in person when it matters.
  • Make calls count: Intent-qualified follow-ups, post-campaign and post-event calls, and cold calls when the account is right. You run discovery when the conversation warrants it, then hand off to the AE or KAE with full context.
  • Own Booxi's presence at US retail events: NRF, Shoptalk, and others. Not a badge-scanner. A relationship builder who converts booth conversations into pipeline.
  • Feed Marketing and the PMM: You're the first human in the room with prospects nobody else sees yet. Persona insights, objections, the language buyers use: you share it all so the machine gets sharper over time.

Your impact: generate qualified enterprise opportunities and help turn high-intent retail accounts into real pipeline.

This Role Is For You If

  • You enjoy turning curiosity into conversations with senior decision-makers.
  • You like working both warm signals and cold outreach.
  • You take pride in researching accounts and crafting relevant outreach, not sending generic messages.
  • You're energized by opening enterprise opportunities, not just closing them.

This Role Isn't For You If

  • You see Business Development mainly as a stepping stone to becoming an AE.
  • You prefer high-volume outbound over strategic account research.
  • You're uncomfortable calling senior stakeholders or starting conversations from scratch.

What You Bring

  • 3+ years of experience in B2B SaaS or enterprise tech, with outbound prospecting exposure.
  • Experience engaging VP and C-level stakeholders in complex organizations.
  • Familiarity with modern prospecting tools (Lemlist or equivalent, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, AI-assisted research).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to craft personalized outreach.
  • Comfortable with both warm and cold outbound.
  • Curious, proactive, and ownership-driven.

Nice to have: experience in retail, retail tech, or selling into large retail organizations.

Why Join Booxi

You're joining a Marketing team that has already built the infrastructure. Your job is to be the human layer that converts all of it into real conversations, and to help make the machine smarter over time.

An international culture that's still genuinely human. True flexibility on how you work, with clear accountability on what you deliver.

  • Generous PTO policy
  • Full company closure Dec 25 to Jan 1
  • 2 personal days + unlimited sick leave
  • Group health insurance
  • $300 home office allowance
  • Flexible schedule

If you love strategic prospecting, complex accounts, and want to have a direct impact on the growth of an ambitious SaaS scale-up, we would love to meet you.

Apply now and help us make commerce more human.

-----------------------------------------------
