Engineering Manager, Notification Platform

DoorDash Canada

Toronto, ON

Full-time

Re-posted 2 days ago

Job description

About the Team

The Notification Platform team sits within Growth Engineering, powering DoorDash-wide notifications that connect consumers, dashers, merchants, and DoorDash across our Global markets. The platform delivers critical transactional notifications that directly affect the order experience, while driving growth through relevant, personalized marketing notifications.

The team operates around four notification pillars-Reach, Frequency, Liquidity, and Contextualization-split across a Supply side (expanding reach and content liquidity) and a Demand side (decisioning and contextualization). From order updates and masked communication to promos, recommendations, and the cross-vertical Notification Hub, the team builds the product and platform systems that deliver the right message to the right audience, on the right channel, at the right time and frequency.

About the Role

We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the Notification Platform team. This is a highly cross-functional, systems-driven role at the intersection of marketplace communications, personalization, machine learning, and platform governance.

Your mission will be to scale a reliable, intelligent notification ecosystem-delivering across push, email, SMS, and the Notification Hub, powered by the Pedregal platform and enriched with ML-driven ranking and Generative AI content. You'll partner closely with Product, Ops, Data Scientists, and partner engineering teams to define strategy, execution, and long-term technical direction.

As a technical leader, you'll ensure the team delivers high-impact notification systems that operate reliably at scale while remaining configurable, experiment-friendly, and grounded in real-world user engagement.

You're excited about this opportunity because you will...
  • Build and lead a high-performing engineering team focused on notification delivery, personalization, and platform governance
  • Own the technical vision and roadmap for Notification Platform, aligning product strategy with Growth Engineering's broader mission
  • Drive the go-forward Pedregal platform, including centralized capabilities such as deduplication and holistic ranking that coordinate across domains
  • Partner deeply with Product, Ops, and Data Scientists to integrate ML-driven send-time, frequency, and channel optimization, and to expand Generative AI content generation across channels and domains
  • Deliver real-time, data-driven systems that balance transactional reliability, growth, and unit economics (e.g. SMS cost efficiency) across markets
  • Scale the platform internationally with shared, configurable infrastructure to support entities such as Wolt and Deliveroo
  • Foster a culture of ownership, rigor, and experimentation, with high standards for system correctness, scalability, and operational excellence
We're excited about you because...
  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field
  • 7+ years of industry experience
  • 2+ years of engineering management experience (team size > 5)
  • Proven experience building and scaling backend, platform, or distributed systems
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, especially with cross-functional stakeholders
  • AI/ML experience in personalization, ranking, or Generative AI is nice to have
