Position: Desktop Administration

Summary

We are seeking a Desktop Administration Professional to provide reliable, customer-focused technical support across the customer’s desktop and laptop computing environment. In this role, you will support approximately 200 users by installing, configuring, and maintaining hardware, software, and network connectivity across multiple operational networks. You will manage daily service requests, perform hands-on troubleshooting, maintain system security, and ensure seamless operation of PCs, printers, phones, and related peripherals. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, working directly with end users, and keeping a complex enterprise environment running smoothly and securely.


Capabilities

  • Provide Windows desktop system administration services, including installation, configuration, and full lifecycle management of all hardware and software supporting approximately 200 users across multiple operational networks.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot Army Golden Master (AGM) software, responding to user requests submitted through the TrackIT/FootPrints ticketing system.
  • Support physical equipment moves, including transporting and placing PCs, laptops, printers, phones, and related devices, and ensuring proper network connection based on move/add/change service tickets.
  • Assist users with account and access needs, including establishing network passwords, publishing PKI certificates for CAC login and email encryption, creating network drives, and configuring Microsoft Outlook.
  • Perform manual software installations, upgrades, and security patching on desktops, laptops, and workstations, tracking all updates through the ticketing system and software inventory spreadsheet.
  • Create and update automated drive images using SCCM or GHOST, ensuring standard configurations remain current and reducing the need for manual software installation.
  • Coordinate with external vendors to repair hardware or software covered under warranty or maintenance agreements, leveraging customer support contracts when applicable.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hardware issues on systems not covered by warranty, using government-furnished parts to restore functionality.
  • Resolve network connectivity issues for PCs, workstations, and printers in response to user-submitted service requests.
  • Maintain up-to-date antivirus protection, applying automated console updates and performing manual updates or remediation when required.
  • Quarantine, clean, and remediate virus-affected systems, re-imaging devices when necessary to restore secure operation.
  • Coordinate IT equipment movement and accountability with Division Hand Receipt Holders and the customer's Property Book Officer, ensuring accurate tracking through standard asset accountability forms.
  • Monitor network printer status remotely using the web interface, identifying maintenance or supply needs and reporting issues through daily status updates or immediate notifications when required.
  • Track software inventory levels and alert the Government IT Operations Manager when availability concerns or shortages are anticipated.

Education, Certifications, and Training

  • Certification aligned to an IAT-II required, such as: Microsoft MCTS Server, MCSA Windows Server; CompTIA Security+ or CompTIA Server+
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field preferred
